Commissioners Cooperation The Duplin County Board of Commissioners at their meet ing on Monday, adopted a reso lution commending C.W. Sur ratt. Jr., of Rose Hill, chair man and the members of the Board of Directors of the Dup lin County Industrial and Agri cultural Council, Inc., for Wr ing Preston B. Ralford as the new Duplin County Industrial director. The commissioners assured the council that they will co operate with the council in every way possible to bring about a richer and fuller life for the citizens of Duplin. Mrs. Blackmore Attends Press Release Mrs. Ruby M. plackmore, teacher of Chemistry at the; Wallace-Rose Hill High School, attended the secona Eastern North Carolina Teacher's Con ference held at East Carolina College on Saturday October 5, 1963. The Conference is jointly sponsored by the Eas tern North Carolina Section of the American Chemical Socie ty and East Carolina College. Mrs. Blackmore appeared as a panelist on the afternoon pro gram entitled "Curbstone Clin ic" during which time the chem istry tests administered in many schools in eastern North Carolina last spring were e valuated. These tests were giv en in the Wallace-Rose Hill High school to all students of 1 chemistry and were valuable in evaluatiiw the retentive abili ties of the students as well as determining the degree of learning or the basic scienti fic principles involved. The Eastern North Carolina Section of the American Chemi cal Society has been active since its inception in direct assis tance to high schools in Eas tern Carolina. This assis tance has taken the form ot classroom lectures, serrdnar programs, career counselling, science fairs, student sym posia, and Science Teacher's Award. Among the membership of this organization are people who are not only trained in a wide variety of technical fields, but who have a deep interest and a desire to participate in the continuing progress of edu cation in this area. Mrs. Blackmore states that this was a valuable meeting in that it provided Information to Improve teaching in the classroom.
