NEW FORESTRY PLOT AT
EAST DUPLIN VOCATIONAL
AGRICULTURAL
DEPARTMENT
With the full cooperation of
Mr. Eugene Wells of the Dup
lin County Forestry Service,
the Agriculture Teachers at
East Duplin have completed A
forestry demonstration plot.
The plot is located on the sch
ool grounds. Plants for the
plot were supplied by the State
Forestry Nurseries. The seed
lings planted were Loblolly.
White, Slash, Pond and Mari
time Fine, Red Cedar and Ar
izona Cypress.
The Agriculture teachers feel
that this plot will allow agri
culture students to observe the
planting of seedlings, spacing
and growth characteristics. It
was explained to the students
how they could obtain pine
seedlings for home projects and
also explained what variety of
trees would be most adapted to
their local area. The Agricul
ture teachers feel that this plot
will help create local interest in
conserving forestry resources
and contribute to the planting
of non-productive land to pine
seedlings.

HOME CARE O FSICK
Someone sick in your household
Most people who get sick are
cared for at home. Only a com
parative few become ill enough
to require hospitalization. Al
most everyone at some time is
required to care for a sick fri
end or relative. Usually care
is required for only a day or
two, perhaps a week. Some
times a chronic, long-term ill
ness is involved.
Do you know how to care for
someone who is sick?
There are two primary points
to remember - Keep clean and
keep cheerful.
Sanitation is highly important
around the sick room. The ama
teur nurse must remember to
wash his or her hands often.
Clothing should be laundered
frequently and thoroughly.
Used towels and cloths should
be handled carefully.
The sick person needs a
cheerful nurse to help the in
valid keep up his morale while
getting well. A long, solemn
face won't be very good for
the patient.
Equally important is a third
point - Don't try to diagnose
and prescribe. The attendant
should obtain careful orders
from the doctor, especially with
regard to medications.
Sometimes cold packs relieve
discomfort, sometimes hot
packs are better. Let the doctor
decide. Write down his instruc
tions for care and for giving
medicines, to avoid error.
Rearrange your household so
that the patient has a room to
himself, if at all possible. The
room should be thoroughly
cleaned, and then kept clean
and neat.
