Miss Jane Bradshaw, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brad shaw of Rose Hill will ride Miller-Motte Business College's Float during the 17th Azalea Festival in Wilmington, Saturday, April 4. The theme for the parade will be "Parade Of Nations" and the Miller-Motte Float will represent Spain. Jane is a graduate of the Wallace-Rose Hill High School, Class of 1963, and is a student in the secretarial department at Miller-Motte Business College. She was chosen by her class mates to represent Duplin County and there are to be seven <7) othr young ladies on the float it was announced today by Paul C. Miller, registrar at the college. GARDEN CLUB MEETS Mrs. Charlie Teachey, Jr. and Mrs. C. T. Fussell Jr. were hostesses to the Rose Hill Gar den Club. Tuesday afternoon, March 24. in the home of Mrs. Teachey. During the social hour the members were served a cherry salad course with cof fee. Mrs. Teachey's home was very beautifully decorated with arrangements of winter foliage. Camellias and Dutch Iris. Mrs. S. O. Johnson, the presi dent, presided over the meet ing. Officers for the coming year were named as follows: Mrs. H. W. Farrior President. Mrs. fi. B. Longest, Vice-Presi dent, and Mrs. W. H. Wells presented a very interesting and infor mative program on "Flower Arranging", emphasizing, that i Flower arrangers are being al lowed more freedom than ever before. There are almost "No Rules" that must be obeyed. But there are some principals of good design you will want to be aware of as aids to your own sense of taste and to your self confidence. Some happy few are born with the sure feel for design, they can put flow ers together artistically without ever following any principal of design. But most of us grow in skill as we understand the fundamentals of design and apply them to our flower ar rangements. Mrs. Wells, also demonstrated some of the ma jor elements that add up to good design, No. 1, Proportion, TI Balance. II Contrast in Color IV Harmony. The Pasta re Branch Conn munity Club met at the club house on March 14, at 8 p. m. with sixteen members preeent. At this meeting the club de cided to have a meetiac on the fourth Monday night of each month. The Indies of the club had also quilted two quiltes and sold chances at 50c each. The lucky winers were Gordon Muldrow and Frankie Edwards of Beulaville. Frankie Edwards gave the one she won, back to the club to sell chances on again and if she happens to read this, the club says "Thanks Again". At the next meeting which will be on April 28, at the club-house, there will be a covered dish supper and each family in the Pasture Branch Area is invited to come out and enjoy a good time together The time will be 6:20 p. m. ANNOUNCEMENT The congregation of Mount Zion Presbyterian Church of Rose Hill voted on Sunday, March 29, to call Mr. Lester La Prade, Jr; as their full time pastor. Mr. La Prade is a na tive of West Virginia and will graduate from Union Theolog ical Seminary in Richmond In June. MRS. ALDERMAN TO PLAY FOR JUBILEE The Stephenson Music Com pany, Cameron Village Raleigh will furnish the organ to be played in the Diamond Jubilee held in Wallace, April 9-12. Mrs. L. K. Alderman of Rose Hill, who is a chartered member of the Crossroads Theatre and is on the music committee for the Jubilee will play. The show is backed by the "SwingmAsters ', one of the best bands in Eastern North Carolina, This Band will fea ture Gene Davis, lead guitar. J. C. Bryant, bass guitar, "Mac" Raynor at piano, Neil Whitaker, drums, and Len Brinkley at fiddle, with Charles Albert son as vocalist and rhy thm guitar. The Jaycees were very happy to learn these fine musicians could perform for the show. Another big attraction, 'Slim' and Eleanor Merritt, stars of country and western music, will be on hand to highlight the show. From the world of folk music comes the highly competent and entertaining Don Aber nethy with his guitar "Uke". A group of young singers," The Teens' consisting of Ann Price, Van Johnson, and Buddy Brink ley from Rose Hill will also sing folk songs. Also from Rose Hill the "Chic Squares" will do square dancing, western style, with Joe Eason calling. The famous "Cloggers" from Jacksonville who have perfor med through-out the state will keep the square dancing going accompanied by the music of the "Swingmasters".
