She and friends from Fayetetvllle at *; tended the World Fair and vis ited many points of interest. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Rouse and Harry, Jr. and Mr. ant1 Mrs. Harvey Braddy and John attended the Kennedy Tribute in Kenan Stadium at Chapel Hill Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Maltaby and family of Jacksonville were dinner guest of Mrs. P. 0. Powell end Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Johnson and family Re cently. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Pound of Columbia, S. C. visited Miss Annie Katherine Bland during the week end. Miss JoAnne Johnson is visit ing Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Sim mons in Winston-Salem. Mr. and Mrs. Ermon Garris visited their son Gene and were among those paying tri bute to the late President Ken nedy. Mrs. Coy Brewer and son of Fayetteville recently spent the week end with Mrs. P. 0. Pow ell and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Johnson and family. FAMILY GET-TOGETHER On Sunday, May 17 a family get together was enjoyed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hu bert Knowles. All children and grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Martin were present with exception of 1 grandson, Dean Ray Johnson, who is in service in Germany. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Simmons, and children Pat and Mike, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Martin and daughter Debbie of Win ston-Salem, Billy Martin, U. S. Navy stationed in Norfolk, Va. Mrs. R. T. Bland, Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Johnson and daugh ters JoAnne and Janet, Mr and Mrs. Hubert Knowles and chil dren, Jane and Dennis and Mr and Mrs. Charlie Martin all of Rose Hill. Hostesses were Misses Mar tha Russell, Ponza Armfield. and Betsy John McKee class mates of the honoree, at Greensboro College. Guests were inv'ted into the rumpus room of the home where an Early American decor was used in decorating. The bride's table featured an attractive arrangement of red geraniums and candles on a red and white checked table cloth. Erchey called the Town and j Country Motel in New York to | reserve rooms for E. L. Lanier, Rose Hill. i The recipient of the call in New York asked, "What is your first name, Mr. Lanier?" When he replied "Erchey," the New Yorker said, "Oh yes, you were raised out about Charity Crossroads and I went to school with you. This is Thurman Teachey." Thurman is the son of P. K. Teachey and lived with his family in Rose Hill where his father was in the produce busi ness for many years. You never know who is on ' the other end. Deaths ALTON WEAVER WHALEY ROSE HILL - Alton Weaver Whaley, 89, prominent retired farmer of the Charity Com munity died early Thursday morning. i He was a Veteran of World , War I and was a member of the Wallace American Legion post No. 156. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock in the Wesleyan Meth odist Church to be conducted by Rev. L. W. Milstead, pas tor, assisted by Rev. Lauren Sharpe, pastor of the Kenans ville Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Golden Grove Cemetery at Kenansville. He is survived by his wife, the former Geneva Murphy of Rose Hill, one son Alton Jr. of Cary, one daughter Mrs. Caro lyn Taylor of Oak City. Five grand children. Four brothers. Manly P. LANIER WALLACE - Hosa Bryant La nier, 80, died Thursday after noon in Pender Memorial Hos pital at Burgaw. Funeral services were con ducted at 4 p. m. Saturday from Norman Memorial Chapel here, officiated by the Rev. K. D. Grimes. Burial was in Riv erview Memorial Park. A native of Duplin County, Mr. Lanier was a son of the late Wright Lanier and Mary Canady Lanier. He was pro ceeded in death by his wife, the late Mrs. Carrie Wells La nier. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ed Raynor of Wallace and Mrs. Arquilla Wells of Char lotte; a son, J. D. Lanier of Stanley; 25 grandchildren, 34 great - grandchildren and h great - great - grand. Southerland WALLACE - Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Dunn Souther land, 72, who died Friday in Clinton, were conducted Sun day at 3 p. m. in the Wallace Presbyterian Church by the Rev. James Atwood. She was a member of the Wallace Presbyterian Church and a native of Wake County Surviving are her husband, Alexander Southerland; one son, Milton of Greensboro; one sister, Mrs. Florence Phillips of El Dorado, Ark.; and one grandchild. Mrs. Thelma Dingus Bryant, 55, of Wallace, died Monday night at James Walker Memorial Hospital in Wilmington after a long illness. She was the wife of Joseph H. Bryant, operator of tobacco warehouses and produce mar kets in Wallace and Morris town, Tenn. A native of Morris town, she was a member of the Wallace Methodist Church. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3 p. m. at Wal lace Methodist Church by the Rev. W. H. Kirby. Burial was in Rockfish Memorial ceme tery. Also surviving are a son, Joseph D. Bryant of Wallace; and her parents, Emmett B. and Cora Harmon Dingus of Wallace. Pallbearers were Kenneth Currie, Gene Wells, Charles Teachey Jr., W. N. The certificate was presented by The Ameri can Jersey Cattle Club from its headquarters in Columbus, Ohio. The production of Volunteer Confident Octavia far exceeds that of the "average" dairy cow in the United States. All tests were checked both by North Carolina State College and The American Jersey Cat tle Club.
