Due to circumstances beyond our control, we were unable to cover all phases of progress in the county which wenaoplanned to cover. Progress In Duplin the past year has been stupen dous. We have gone through a re modeling spree at die office, which of course meant moving all of the offices, and confusion In general. However. In this Issue we tried to cover the towns of the county. ^ Our great rural areas which are the backbone of our county will be covered In a later issue. Anyhow, with a tired force we say. pleasant Reading, Political Race Set To Go.. CommissionersRace Hottest Filing date for the May De mocratic Primary closed Fri day, April 15 at 12 o'clock noon. It appears that it will be a quiet race this year except for a few hotly contested seats' in the race for county commis sioners, one seat on the Board of Education, and a race for North Carolina State Senate, as well as several constable races. For North Carolina State Se nate, LeRoy G. Simmons (D) Is running again. He served as3 State Senator when a citizen of Duplin last represented the dis trict. He is opposed by J. N, (Nick) Kalmar (D), of Faison, and G. L. (Pat) Sholar (R) For the County Board of Ed ucation special 4-year term which was made vacant by the death of James Alberts on, the appointee W. Orlando (Joe) Al bertson is running and he Is opposed by Dr. E. L. Boyette of Chinquapin. Three county commissioners have to run this year and each of them have opposition. For district No. 2 which Kenneth Grady Is now serving, he Is opposed by Glanton R. Holland. Emmett Kelly and Randall Har grove. District in, Murphy J. Simp son, Incumbent, is opposed by Leon Brown and R. Paul Kldd. District IV, J. Wlllard Hof fler who Is now serving Is opposed by Roland C. James. Other races are for Consta ble. in Falson die two con testants are George H. Davis and Jimmy Kelly. H Wolfscrape Township, running are Carroll Herring, George Swlnson, Sr. and E. E. Proctor. Albertson Township, Bursell Holland and Joe D. Stanlev are In the racing. In Rose Hill, Lonnle Caste en will oppose Edward Chestnut!. For North Carolina State Le gislature, Hugh s. One is a marker donated by Mr. Malcora L. Grady which tells of the organization of He bron Church in 1886. The other marker is one bearing the names of the char ter members of the church and has been erected by the congregation with the generous help of descendants of the char ter members and other friends. Dr. Harold Dudley, General Secretary and Stated clerk of the Presbyterian Synod of N. C., will speak at the dedication service. The public is invited to attend and a special invita tion is extended to all the des cendants oft he charter mem bers of Hebron Church.
