He is Mr. Bowden's uncle, other recent visitors of the Bowdens were hie mother, Mre. W. P. Bow den of Falls Church. Va. also Mr. and Mrs. John Gallegher ot Philadelphia, Pa. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Irving of Stonevflle visited Mr. and Mrs. Bob Burgess one afternoon last week. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Jones of Wilmington spent the weekend here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L R. Jones. Mrs. Mildred K. Brewer has been visiting friends In Ashe ville. Mrs. Bob Burgess was call ed to Raleigh on Wednesday night due to the death of a sis ter, Mrs. Euphone Baker Mas sengill. Mrs. Burgess was ac companied there by her daugh ter, Mrs. Carole a Murphy. Other members of her family went to die funeral on Friday. ?jsaumfes vllle, n. Mr. and Mrs. Ivey Fields had daughter Phyllis have returned from Palmetta and other points in Florida where they went to visit her father and to bring home their other two daugh ters, LaVerne and Linda who had been spending several weeks with their maternal grand father. Mr. and Mrs. Faison McGo wan visited the Murphy Cana dys in Bunn Level recently. Mrs. D. S. Williamson went to Goldsboro Thursday on bu siness. she was accompanied by Mrs. Hazel Scon and son John ny also Mrs. Steve Williamson Mlauudy Westbrook of near Mount Olive spent Wed nesday night here with the Co lon Holllanda. C. where he will be In training for several weeks before going to Viet Nam. Mrs. Fred Baars of Warsaw was In Kenansvllle Tuesday on business. GUEST SPEAKER Mr. John Alexander, a stu dent at Union Theological Se minary In Richmond, Virginia filled the pulpit Sunday morn ing at Grove Presbyterian Ch urch for the pastor, the Rev. Troy D. Mullis who was at tending a Town and Country Pastor's School In Atlanta, Ga. at Emory University. Mr. Ale xander Is originally from New Mexico. He was accompanied by Mr. Louis A. Skidmore of Mary land, who assisted In the Ser vice. Both young men are mem bers of the seminary Evange listic Team working In the Churches of Wilmington Pres bytery this summer. After-alnner dancing was led by the traditional dance of the bride and groom. MISCELLANEOUS SHOWER Mesdames Thelma Qulnn and Inez Jernlgan were co-hostess es at a miscellaneous shower given at the home of the latter on Tuesday night for Mrs. Fan nie Kearns Jernlgan, bride elect of the month. The guests arrlvec bringing their gifts a round 8 o'clock and were met by the hostesses and thehonor ee, who was .wearing a pretty rose-bud corsage. Petite cake squares were served at one end of the re freshment table by Mrs. Pat sy Qulnn Howard and lime punch was served at the opposite and by Mrs. Katherine QulnnHallof Rose HOI. Salted nuts and mints were also served. The table was centered with a lovely arrangement of sum mer flowers Interspersed with candles and ribbons carrying out a color note of green ana white with a touch of yellow, arranged by Mrs. T. P. Qulnn. After playing a game led by Mrs. Mildred Mathews the ho noee opened her many attrac tive packages. She was as sisted by Misses Sally Jer nlgan ana Edith Hall, There were about thirty guests present and many who nad conflicts sent their gifts.
