The Jones Central Rockets scored their second straight East Central 2-a victory last Friday night at Trenton defeat ing the Wildcats of Rlchlands, M-0. It gave the Rockets a 3-0 ECC record and Rlchlands 0-2. The Rockets rolled 87 yards In the opening minutes of the second period to score. The touchdown came on a 65-yard pass from back Lester "Scoo ter" Smith to big end Alan Mal lard. Terry Peeo bulled over for E the pat. In the final period Mallard recovered a Wildcat fumble on ' Rlchlands 39 yard line. Once again speedster Lest Smith raced 17 yards for the TD. Peed added the point. The Rockets netted 213 yards rushing while Rlchlands gained 76. Jones Central gained 74 passing while Rlchlands had ? ? ? * Coach Richard Kaleel's North Duplin Rebels scored early to drop East Duplin 20-6 in an East Central contest. It was the second straight win for the Rebels and the second loss for Coach Jerry Thlgpen. End Lewis Taylor recovered a Panther fumble In mid-air on a punt return and raced 40 yards for the opening score. In the same period quarterback Ray Price broke loose and ram bled 37-yards to pay dirt to give the Rebels a 13-0 lead. In the second period half back Ricky Bell raced 72 yards for a 20-0 lead In the Pan thers new football stadium. Thigpen's team held the Re bels scoreless In the second half. The East Duplin club moved to a touchdown In the fourth (garter with Alfred Jones scoring from the six. The Pan thers led the Rebels in first downs 7-3. ? ? ? ? The Southern Wayne Vikings slaughtered the Rebels of South Lenoir last Friday night In Mt. Olive, 53-0. It was an East Central 2-a game. The Vikings defense line held the Rebs of Coach Thomas Sal ter to one-yard net rushing af ter the opening kickoff. Coach Norman Clark's SW machine rolled up the high score in the school's history. The Vikings with speedster Billy Lee ran the Rebels al most back to Lenoir County. Lee, an all conference star scored three touchdowns and kicked five extra points. The twenty-three points put Lee out front in the scoring in theECC. He led the conference last year with 123 points. Lee's longest jaunt was a 53-yarder. Back John Clifton tallied twice, once from 36 yards out. The other long scor ing run was a 32-yaraer by Richard Brock. Bill Cox and Phil Brewer also scored a TD each for Southern Wayne. ? ? * ? The Clinton Dark Horses de feated James Kenan this past Friday night, 27-14 at Tiger Field, it marked tne second straight 3-A powerhouse for Coach Hugle Lewis's Tigers. They lost 13-0 In their opener last week to Northern Durham. Clinton marched 62-yards In the second period for their first touchdown, high lighted by a 27-yard pass from quarterback Sam Kitchen to end Robert Mer rltt. Halfback Doug Foushee scored r om three yards out. Foushee made It 7-0 with the pat. Late In the same period Fou shee returned a punt 48 yards to James Kenan's four. Three plays later Kitchen scored from the nine. Foushee added the pat and Clinton led 14-0 at the half. In the second period the Dark Horses drove 57 yards down to James Kenan's one but the Ti ger forward wall stopped them on four downs Inside the one. Coach Hughle Lewis stated, "our defense played just good hard nose football. They kept fresh men running In and out all night but our boys, going both ways, were doing a fine job," said Lewis. In the third period the Dark Horses traveled 65 yards for their third TD, climaxed by a 59-yard pass from Kitchen to end Lee Butler for the score. Fourshee's run was no good but Clinton held a 20-0 lead. In the fourth quarter the Dark Horses moved 74yards in seven plays for their final TD. Fou shee scored from the four. Kit chen ran for the pat. Midway In the fourth quarter James Ke nan's offense began to take on another look. The Tigers march ea 67-yaras to score, quarter back Rudy Hasty hit end Dar rell Pope on a 17 yarder down to the Dark Horses' 2 yard line. Fullback Al Payne scored on next play. Doc Brlnson kicked the extra point to cut the mar gin 27-7. Late in the final stanza Ja mes Kenan's big Lenny Pruitt grabbed a Clinton fumnle deep In Dark Horse territory. Two plays later quarterback Doc Bruison hit Pope for the second JK touchdown. Brlnson again split the uprights...Final score 27-14. ? ? ? ? j The Wallace-Rose Hill Bull uugs were jusi a iiiue on oa lance this past Friday night and East Carteret slipped by them 14-7. it was a non-con ference game for the Bulldogs. Back Larry Howard scored Wallace-Rose Hill's lone touch down and Vann Blake added the extra point. ? ? ? ? The James Kenan Junior Var slty football team will open the 1966 season Thursday night in Mount Olive against the Sou thern Wayne Vikings.
