JIMMY BAR WICK HONORED ON WEDDING ANNIVERSARY Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Berwick were honored with a surprise party on their third wedding anniversary November tenth in the Summerlln's Cross Roads Community. Following choir practice at the Rooty Branch Church the young people of the church, Mrs. Eddie Goodman, Ms. Thurman Davis, Mrs. E. J. Sum merlin and Mrs. Herbert J. Summerlin entertained at die Goodman home. Fall flowers were used in decorating throughout the home. The dining room table was co vered with a green cloth over laid with lace, and centered with a decorated three tiered cake. Refreshments consisted of cake, fruit punch, toasted pe cans and potato chips. Approximately 26 persons at tended. The honored guests were presented a gift by the young people's choir. LPN's Meet The L.P.N.'s of Are* 39 held their monthly meeting on No vember 8th in the dining room at Duplin General Hospital. The business session was presided over by Mrs. Hazel Rouse, president. The minutes of the last meeting were reed by Mrs. Lillian Rouse, Secre tary and the treasurers report was given by Mrs. Annie Mae O'Leary, Treasurer. Plans were made to have the L.P.N, meet big for Decem ber 13th at 12 noon where they will have a luncheon and ex change gifts. All present are required to bring a small gift. The speaker for the Novem ber meeting was Mrs. Elolse Thomas, florist of Beulavllle. She was introduced by Mrs. Hazel Rhodes, program Chair man. Through the efforts of the Boy Scoht' Organization, over 125 American Flags were un furled and/waving. Smith school, with James Henry as Institutional Representative and Plumle Graham as Denmother; Pack 50, sponsored by the Ke nansvllle Trojan CluB, with John Hall as Institutional Represen - tatlve. The following are the unit leaders; Jim Midaleton, Cub master; Bill Faust, Scout master; and Bill Crowder and H. C. Allen, Explorer Advisors. PROJECT FREE ENTERPRISE COMING UP The free enterprise In dustries and business once again have teamed up to spon sor Project Free Enterprise. Nearly 50 Explorers and Senior Scouts (14 years and older) from throughout Duplin County and Mount Olive were present on November 8 at the Four County Electric Building In Rose Hill to hear P. B. Rai ford. Chairman of Project Free Enterprise, brief the partici pants on all the facets of the project. The project Is sche duled for November 16 and will culminate Its activities at the Free Enterprise Banquet held at the Goldsboro Motor Hotel. LOCAL SCOUTS APPROVED FOR WORLD JAMBOREE Six Boy Scouts and Explorers have been approved to attend the World Jamboree as representa tives of the Tuscarora Council, B.S.A., N. H. Carter, member of the Council world Jamboree committee, announced today. The world Jamboree will be held at Farragut State Park Idaho, from August 1 to 9, 1967, the first time that the Boy Scouts of America have Lt. and Mrs. W. G. Simmons visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Simmons Tuesday niht. The new baby girl, Bar bara Suzanne, was also present. CHURCH NEWS Rev. Hood had a fine mes sage Sunday night at the Pres byterian Churcn. He spoke from John 21, the topic being "Christ Questions Peter Concerning His Love." Mr. Hood brought out that the Lord knows If we love Him, or If It's Just Up service. The church shouldn't be re Uglous dubs Interested In membership, but a body of be lievers called to save a world from sin and distraction. He brought out that lost sheep can never find that hole they escaped through, but have to have someone lead them back which should be the laymen's job too, not just the pastor. The combined Thanksgiving served as host to this type world wide encampment. The World Jamboree Scouts were interviewed locally, and their applications were re viewed by a special committee representing Region 6 of the Boy Scouts of America before being approved. .Whllethe Scouts are at the World Jamboree, the Cub Scout packs. Boy Scout troops, and Explorer posts in the Duplin District will hold friendship campfires as a part of a world wide observance of the 60th anniversary of the founding of Scouting. The first Boy Scout camp was held as an experi ment on Brownsea Island, off the coast of England, from Au gust 1 to 9, 1907, Carter said. Carter explained that in addi tion to meeting age and Scout rank requirements, the World jamboree Scouts are proficient in campcraft, have a general knowledge of world conditions and the history of the united States, and are able to state clearly the fundamental prin ciples on which the united States was founded. Explorer Bill Brltt. program will be at the Pres byterian church, this year, Wednesday, November 23 at 7:30 p.m. Roger Pickett will bring the message. The other teenagers from the church of God and Presbyterian Church will be responsible for prayer, responsive reading and reading of scripture. SMITH'S 4-H CLUB The Smiths Community 4-H Club met Thursday, November 10, with the Vice-president Ka ren Smith presiding. There were ten regular and three new members present. After the business meeting, certificates of achievement were awarded to Kathy and Tony Williams, Carey Williams, Jr., Karen and Linda Smith, Barbara Herring Refreshments we re served by Kathy and Tony Williams. Mr. and Mrs. Lynwooa Turner, Mrs . J. M. Jones were in volved In a two car collision Sunday afternoon at Outlaws Bridge. They were on their way to Goldsboro to attend the fun eral of Mrs. Corbett Howard, wife of Dr. Howard. Mrs. Lyn wood Turner is suffering from a sore neck and chest. The rest of the party had skinned legs. They believe that a sign post saved their lives. They would have turned over and over if It hadn't been for the sign post. Mrs. Lynwood Turner said to me this morning that "it's only by the Grace of God that they all were alive!" Mrs. J. M. Jones and Mrs. Etta Turner left for New York City Monday morning at 7 p.m. by dus on a theater tour. They arrived in New York at 3:30 p.m. and will stay until Friday. Mr. L. H. Turner left Mon day morning for Bowlln Green Kentucky onthetobacco market. He will oe back for the Christ mas Holidays. Mrs. Peggy Ellis from Wil son spent Saturday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Grady. Mr.-nd Mrs. Alvln Korne gay visited in Goldsboro Sunday and attended the funeral of Mrs. Corbett Howard.
