Mrs. Evans Hostess Mrs. Wendell Evans was hos tess to members of her Canas ta club at her home Wednes day night. During play she served scrabble and punch. Those playing were Mesdames William Potter, Earl Baker, C. L. Quinn, J. L. Lanier. Hugh Sanderson, Arthur Butler, Abble Smith and Wendell Evans. Three prizes were awarded, Mrs. William Potter won first prize, Mrs. C. L. Quinn second, and Mrs. Abble Smith, low. Methodist Prayer Group The Ladles prayer Group erf the Methodist Church met Wed nesday morning at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tracv Brown. Mrs. Fred Archer gave the devotional reading and Mrs. Roscoe Potter led in prayer. WSCS Christmas Party The Woman's Society of Christian Service of the Metho dist Church held its Christmas party on Thursday night in the Educational Building at the church. The room was beautifully de corated and there was a tree and gifts for all. Mrs. Abble Smith led the devotional and Mrs. Fred Archer led in prayer. Mrs. N. T. Pickett was in charge of the program, she read a Christmas story and the group sang Christmas Carols. Mrs. Roscoe Potter was hos tess, she served punch, Christ mas cookies, nuts, chicken sa lad sandwiches, open face cream cheese and olive sand wiches, to the following guests. N. C. Christmas Program On Sunday night, Mrs. Al Morris was In charge of the Christmas Program given at the Methodist Churcn, Mrs. Abble Smith was In charge of the music. The program was presented in pantomlne to the music and reading by Rev. Al Morris. The program closed with candle-light service. The group left the church singing "Joy To The World," with the Lords Prayer, prayed outside the door. The tables were decorated with Christmas ar rangements. There was also a tree and window and door de corations. Mrs. Wendell Evans, social chairman was In charge of the decorations and arrange ments. Mrs. Paul Tucker led the program, Mrs. Norman Aycock gave the call to prayer. At the close of the program gifts were given out from be neath the tree and names were drawn for a new Pollyanna for the coming year. Avery Im pressive Christmas devotional was presented by Mrs. Donald Hoyt. Each member brought a bib made from a hand towel to be presented to the South Wins of the Duplin Countv Hospital to be used by the older patients. Toys were also brought by the members to be sent to Cas well Training School. Members were reminded of a sewing contest sponsored by Belks Dept. Stores. Information on this project may be obtained from Belks. An announcement was made of a contest sponsored by the Woman's Clubs for handi capped children. Any one In the area who would like to pre sent the name of a talented child for the contest should get In touch with the Woman's Club President. A thank you note was read from the American Red Cross for nuts donated for Camp Le jeune. It was voted to buy a set of blocks for the Trainable Class at Rose Hill. The program was conducted by the Fine Arts Chairmen, Mrs. E. G. Murray and Mrs. W. I. Rouse. The subject was Christmas Music. As part of the program Christmas re cords were enjoyed during the meal. Mrs. Murray gave a nls tory of music programs In the state telling the work of reli gious groups, and the Federa tion of Woman's Clubs. She traced the history of the state music contest, and the contest for composers. A contest Jumbled instru ments was enjoyed by all, after which Mrs. Rouse Introduced Mrs. S. V. Wllklns and Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Wells who sang "Joy To The World" and "Deck The Halls" Mrs. gave a short history of the carol' 'Silent Night.''
