The Reverend Norman Ay cock officiated at the double ring ceremony. The bride Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Petteway Smith of Magnolia and the bride groom Is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Cornish Judson Mercer of Clinton. Nuptial music was provided by Ted Arven, Jr. of Clinton, who sang, "Because", "Ave Maria", and the "Wedding Prayer' . Mrs. Carlton Smith, organist, rendered appropriate selections of weddli^ music. The couple were joined In marriage before an altar set ting arranged with six silver branch candelabras centered with a large arrangement of tube rose, white glads, mums, snaps, and pom poms and adorn ed with white wedding bells. Two similar arrangements flanked each side of the altar setting. Green ferns were In terspersed with a prayer bench forming the focal point of the nuptial setting. Given In marriage by her fa ther, the bride wore a formal empire gown of silk organza over peau-de-sole styled with scooped neckline trimmed with ChantUly lace and seed pearls. The A-llne skirt was edged with Chantllly lace and seed pearls and designed with re movable chapel train appliqued with Chantllly lace motifs and caught up at the waist with self fabric bows. A bouffant veil of silk Illusion was attached to a petal crown of Chantllly lace trimmed with seed pearls and irrldescents. She carried a cascade of white bridal roses and carnations, tube roses, pom poms. Miss Carolyn Kenan, cousin of the bride from Wallace, was mald-of-honor. She wore a floor-length yellow, sleeveless, peau-de-sole gown styled with a scooped neckline. The Empire waist was accented with a yel low peau de sole fold. He Is pre sently serving with the U. S. Coast Guard and will be sta tioned at Cape May, New Jersey where the couple will make their home.
