On Wednesday she and Mrs. Htfcher went to Surf City to get Mrs. Mildred K. Ehrewer who had been there with friends for several days. Pvt. Rudy Hasty has been transferred from Ft. Jackson, S. C. to Ft. Devans. Mass. He spent a couple of weeks at home before going to Mass. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Bitter wolf of New Orleans. La. spent several days last week here with the L N. Bowdens. Eastern Star Meeting Dora and Davis Evans were In their respective stations as Worthy Matron and Worthy Pa tron when Kenansvllle Chapter #216, Order of the Eastern Star met on last Tuesday night In the Masonic Temple, there were 16 members present. A program on Friendship high lighted the meeting. It was In charge of Louise K. Boney, pro gram chairman for the chapter. In her opening remarks she referred to a verse from "The House by the Side qf the Road b y Sam Walter Foss and a discussion on "Friendship by Walter E. Isenhour, after which Mary C. Southerland answered the question, "What Is A Friend?" and Viola W. Qulnn added comments on "A Loyal Friend, "For a closing thought Inez B. Chestnut road a poem, entitled, "Be Friendly," After the Ritualistic closing, refreshments consisting of cho colate Fudge Candy, assorted crackers and iced drinks were served by the Evans couple assested by Mrs. Boney. Miscellaneous Shower Mrs. Tommy Brinson the for mer Pam Atkinson, bride of the month, was honored here on Friday night, October 27. with a floating Q-ldal Shower. The lovel y affair was given in the Fellowship Hall of the local Baptist Church. The guests were met at the front door by Mrs, Blanton and Introduced to the bride. Receiving with her was her mother, Mrs. Jim Atkinson and the bride-groom's mother. Brinson. Mrs. Booth directed to the refreshment table which was centered with Eperoettes hold ing five lighted yellow tapers Interspersed with yellow mums and greenery emphasizing the color motlt of green and yellow. Mrs. Rich served punch from one end of the table and Mrs. Jmms Kcai Btta Club The second James Kenan Be ta Club Chapter meeting was held October 13. Earl Kelly vice-president, presided at the ? Meeting. Refreshments were served at the beginning Kid then the bus* :ess session began. The club Is planning a very active year and there were many business matters to be dis cussed. Committees were ap pointed to work on our Induc tion service which will be held next month. A special Induc tion ceremony is being pre pared and we are looking for ward to tapping the new mem bers Into the club soon. The projects and goals plan ned to improve the Beta Club':. Image and help the school for this year were discussed more thoroughly and planned to be put into effect as soon as pos sible. The James ten an directories which the club members have been trying to sell were dis cussed. The sale of these di rectories will enable some of the members to attend the State Convention In Raleigh.
