Albertson, Beula vllle; Mrs. Virginia Wilson. 1928 Class Reunion exit of ? class of seven teen, there were twelve mem bers present when the class of 1928 of Beulaville High Sch ool met for a luncheon on Sat urday, April 20, 1968. The re union was held in the private dining room of the Rose Hill Restaurant. A former teacher, Ralph Carlton, and Mrs. Car , lton Joined the group for their anniversary meeting. Also pre sent were eight husbands and wives of class members. For the luncheon, thetwenty two guests were seated * an L shaped table which was cen tered with a massive arrange ment of spring flowers. There was no special program plan ned by the grouo. Instead, their time together was spent visiting and ui reminiscence. Correction In last weeks paper the fol lowing was accidently left out of the article "Youth Arama a Great Success". On Thursday night the pastor of the BeulavUle Pentecostal F. W. B. Church. Rev. Sunday School and Mrs. Les sle Exum the Sunday Schooly Secretary attended a state Sun day School Convention at the First Free Will Baptist Church In Goldsboro on Saturday. Among those from the Beulirllle Free Will Baptist church attending the "Youth Fellowship" at Sandy Plain Ch urch were: Mrs. Lyde Lanier and Anita, Mrs. Lessle Exum, Marilyn Walton, Mrs. Grace Brown, and J anet, Barbara Jar man, Sharon, Douglas and Beu lah Sanderson, Grace Sumner, Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Exum and Ktfhryn, . Lynn Sumner, Linda Brown, and Danny Whaley. Mrs. Grace Brown and dau ghter Janet shopped in Kinston on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Elvis Sumner visited the Cabin F ree Will Bap tist Church an Sunday night to hear the Youth of the Church conducting on the service. All Youth of the Eastern District of Free Will Baptist are reminded and urged to at tend the State Youth Conven tion in Rockingham, N. C. on Saturday, April 27. All youth chairmen and sponsors are urged to please take note of this date. Mr. W. J. Richardson of Raleigh is spending the week end with his niece Mrs. Phobe Pate here. He rode down with another niece Miss Macy Mal lard who was enroute to Jack sonville to spend the weekend with friends. Mrs. Lessle Exum and Mrs. Joyce Ann Thomas also Mrs. Penla Blizzard visited friends in Kinston on Sunday afternoon and also visited friends in Lenoir Memorial Hospital. Head Start The monthly meeting of the Beulaville Head Start Parents and Teachers Group met at the Beulaville Head Start Center, Beulaville, with about fourty parents and staff members present. Mrs. Vernell Judge, presi dent of the parents group led the business session. Some of the needs of the center were I mentioned; curtains, a mixer | for the kitchen, and large I spoons. A collection was taken I for the mixer at the meeting I and 12.0 was raised. Donations of money or other items are welcomed. Some of the mothers meet at ing, is holding beginning sew ing classes at James Sprunt Institute, Kenansville, Tues days and Thursday, 7:00 to 10:00. Another problem concerning the parents and teachers is that the children often get on the road around the Center. There was a great deal of dia that a fence la needed. A com mittee waa selected to atudy the matter regarding coats, materials, etc. The committee members are: Mrs. Bobby Wayne Smith, Smiths Town ship Mrs. Rogers Outlaw, Pink Hill, and Mrs. John Williams. Beulaville. Mrs. Linda Smith, Director of the Beulaville Head Start Cen ter then introduced the speak er, Mr. Thomas Hall. Director of Technical and Vocational Education at James Sprunt In stitute, Kenansville. Mr. Hall traced the develop ment of Community Colleges in North Carolina and told of the various and vocational pro grams, leading to a diploma, extension programs, the Learn ing Lab (to enable anyone over 18 to earn his high school di ploma), a cooperative program with the Neighborhood Youth Corps for high school drop outs, and a cooperative program with the N. C. Department of Correction for prison inmates. A Learning Lab is being con sidered for Beulaville if en ough interest is shown. Following adjournment, pun ch and cookies were served. Cabin F. W. B. Youth Night The young people of Cabin Free Will Baptist Church had complete charge of the Sun day Evening worship Service on April 21 at 7:00 o'clock. Connie Rhodes led in the song service and George Norris had charge of the welcome. A Congregational song "Sta nd Up for Jesus" was used fol lowed by the Y. F. A. and A. F. C. watchword and Motto. The Youth Choir then sang "If vou Know the Lord?" and "To God Be the Glory. " Gwyn Rh odes read the scripture and Calvin Richard Mercer led the evening prayer. Special music was rendered by Patricia Dunn using thesong, Jesus Use Me." The Cherubs had a special place In the service and sang several Choruses. Boys from the A.F.C.group acted as ushers and collected the offering with Alicia Swin son giving trie offertory prayer. Mr. Gene Mercer of Mt. Olive College had charge of the devotions and gave a very inspiring illustration with can dles each representing Christ and the twelve disciples. The service ended by the Congregation singing "Let Others See Jesus in You". The . benediction followed and was pf i^ered by Mr. Mercer. wf Make Honor Roll Miss Ann M. Pruit daught er of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Pruit of Beulaville has been named to the honor roll for the winter quarter at East Carolina Un iversity, Greenville, where she is a sophomore. Sandy Plain News Personals Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Jenkins and son Todd made a business trip to Klnston Saturday. Miss Rudene Kennedy and Miss Ruby Hill of Norton. Va. spent a few davs with her par ents Mr. and Mrs. Joel Kennedy last week. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Hous ton and Jane visited their dau ghter. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Bibs, at Spartanburg, S. C. last week. Jane stayed for a while. Mr. and Mrs. George Smith and David made a business trip to Goldsboro Thursday and also visited Mrs. Carlton Jenkins in Lenoir Memorial Hospital In Klnston. Mrs. Arline Griffin and ch ildren of Walden, N. Y. re turned home Thursday after spending several days In the community with friends and re latives. Paulette returned home with them. Mr. and Mrs. Brlce Lanier had dinner with Mr. and Mrs. J antes Benson Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ardell Bar nette, Tlmmie and Terry visit ed Mr. and Mrs. W. r. Hall Sunday afternoon at Mt. Olive. Eadie Barnette, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ardell Barnette and Wayne Houston, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ashley Houston attended the State Convention of the Beta Club at Raleigh over the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Heath and girls from Kinston spent Saturday night with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Benson. Mr. andMrs. James Benson, Mrs. Sadie Grady and Mr. Sha mp Houston visited Mr. and Mrs. Bill Jenkins at Warsaw Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Mervin Sumner made a business trip to Goldsboro Thursday. Mrs. Mercer Harold Sumner spent two nights last week in her new trailer nome across from Mr. Vervtn Sumner's store get ting things ready to move in. Friends of Mrs. Edgar Rol linson were glad to seener able to attend Church over the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Norwood Lewis of Newport had supper with her parents. Rev. and Mrs. Carol Hans ley Wednesday night. Their boys Paul and Denny re turned with them after spending the Easter holidays with their grand parents. Mrs. Mac Bryan and boys Randy and Charlie had dinner with Mrs. Sidney Lanier and boys at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Futrelle of Beula vllle Sunday. Mrs. Bryan and Mrs. Lanier went to Goldsboro while the boys enjoyed pony rides. Mrs. Callie Baker. Marlyn Venice, Mrs. Grace Sumner, and Mrs. Bessie Baker had supper at "King's Bros" in Klnston Monday night also visit ed Mr. and Mrs. Rever's Baker of Jackson Heights. ? The Women's Auxiliary of Gum Brmch Pen F.W.B. Church was very pleased at the results of their pastry supper Satur day night. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Sm ith of Charlotte spent the week end with his parents, Mr. aid Mrs. Herman Smith. Mrs. Angle Gross of Bangor, Maine Is muting her home with her son, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Gross for a while. Mr. and Mrs. Lumas Turner visited his brother Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Turner of Capital Height, Md. over die weekend. They visited places of interest in Washington, 0. C. and Ar lington, Va. while there. The children of Mr. and Mrs. Ar nold Turner had spent the Easter holidays with relatives In the community and returned home with them. Among those of this com munity attending the Baptismal Service at the Floyd Pond of the New Bay Primitive Baptist Church Sunaay afternoon were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Kennedy, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Kennedy and Mrs. Lara Kennedy. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Kennedy Jan, and Benny, and Mrs. Lara Kennedy attended services at the New Bay Primitive Baptist Church at Verona Sunday night. Mrs. Thomas Crews and son of Durham, returned home Sat urday after spending a few days with her mother, Mrs. Albert Kennedy. Rev. Eugene Sumner of Wake Forest Seminary was home for a while Monday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Coy Sum ner. Those from Sandy Plain Free Will Baptist Church attending the State Sunday School Convention in Goldsboro Saturday were Rev. and Mrs. Carol Hansley, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Kennedy, Ken Smith, and Connie Houston. Mr. and Mrs. Garry Steppler of Mt. Olive, spent the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Joe Houston. Mrs. Steppler went with a group from Mt. Olive Junior College on a trip to Morehead Saturday. The family of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Smith enjoyed a cook out of bar-b-que chicken, slaw, bread, and drinks Saturday aft ernoon. Mrs. Gladys Stroud of Clin ton and Mrs. Lettle Kennedy of Pink Hill attended Church at Sandy Plain Free Will Baptist Church Sunday morning. They ? had dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Willie Smith and visited other relatives in the community in the afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Kennedy Mr. and Mrs. John Rhodes and Billy attended Church at Selma F ree Will Baptist Church Sunday and visited Mrs. Jack Edwards of Smithfield Sunday afternoon. The Women's Auxiliary of Sandy Plain Free Will Baptist Church sponsored a Tupper ware Party Friday night at the church. Mrs. Car line Heath of Deep Run was hostess they had a good response. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Percy Kennedy and Mrs. Willie Smith. District Youth Fellowship Sandy Plain Free Will Bap tist Church was host to the Dis trict Youth Fellowship Satur day night with approximately 250 attending. After a short business meet ing the District Youth Chalr mai, Mrs. Elvis Sumner, cave s report on Cragmoot. Rev. Joe Ingran gave a short mes sage on Missions aid a play was presented by the young people of the church entitled "Converted Dad to Mission." The church ^erved cup cakes, potaochips,pickles, aid AFC & Cherubim Meet The A. F. C.'s and Cheru bim group of Sandy Plain Free WU1 Baptist Church had their regular meeting Sunday rfter noon at the church. The groups were led In sing ing by Mrs. Russell Chesmore and Mrs. Mervln Sumner. After singing several choruses they assembled to see and hear Bib le stories by Mrs. Edward Earl Kennedy presenting them with a film. Everyone enjoyed them very much. The group was then served refreshments of cup cakes, po tato chips, and Pepsi Colas. After the meeting they en joyed the swings and slides on lawn. There were 17 members present with several visitors and sponsors . Mrs.CagieHou ston, Mrs. Wilbur Sumner, Mrs. Percy Kennedy, Mrs. Mervln Sumner, and Mrs. Russell Chesmore. Birthday Party Ricky Bryan 14 and Randy Bryan 13 celebrated their birth days Saturday afternoon at their home. The party was given by their mother, Mrs. Mac Bryan. A weiner roast, ice cream and drinks also a birthday cake baked by grandmother, Mrs. William Thlgpen, was served. Games were played by the boys and girls out under the pines on tne lawn. About 20 guests attended the party. Ev eryone had an enjoyable time. With The Sick Mrs. Albert Kennedy, who was a patient at Duke Hospital, has returned to her home. Her improvement Is very slow. Mrs. Edgar Rollins on who spent some time in Duplin Gen eral Hospital has returned to her home. She was able to attend Church over the week end. Mrs. Nelson Gross was hon ored Friday night at her home with a layette shower by her friends and neighbors. She received many beautiful and useful gifts which were dis played for everyone to see. Mrs. Lillian Heatn, Mrs. Clev land Turner. Mrs. Lumas Tur ner and Mrs. Joe Jones were the hostesses to approximately 20 guests.
