/) Vfc I Carolina Beach Has New Look CAROLINA BEACH - Vacationers returning here tide summer will discover a "new look" which shows the Success of a clean-up cam paign which enhances the famed midway and boardwalk. Many of the old landmarks have sparkling new coats of paint. These include restaurants, concession stands, shooting galleries, midway rides, beach shops, dime stores, theaters ana restaurants. "We are pleased with the manner in which our residents cooperated with the city in bringing this new look to Nora Carolina beach that has everything for the tourist," Mayor Pro-Tem Richard Kepley said. Just 20 minutes from Wilm ington by automobile, this beach resort has four miles of ocean front sand within the municipal limits. Another eight miles of beach adjoins. Keplen said that he thinks Carolina Beach 'is the only such place" in the State that offers "health Inspected" cot tages, apartments and homes to the tourist trade. Celts Inspected The program began last year when property owners and realtors had their rental units insptected bv the New Hanover Health Department. All corrective measures recommended by the in spectors were made. "All properties which will be rented by realtors have been inspected and meet health department standards," Kepley said. A list of realtors may be obtained by writing the Carolina Beach branch of the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce. Three fishing piers jut out into the Atlantic Ocean. Each has a complete assortment of fishing tackle, plus snack bars for sandwiches or restaurants for complete meals. Deepwater fishermen will have their choice of boats for trolling and bottom fishing. The U-shaped municipal yacht basin opposite the town hall is within easy walking distance of stores, supermarkets and restaurants. Carolina Beach reportedly has the largest number of charter fishing boats in New Hanover County. There are also four headboats. one capable of carrying 125 passengers. Good Season Forecast Kepley estimates that be tween 25,000 and 35,000 visi tors will be here each week from June through Septem ber. "These are conservative figures ? actually we expect a better season than last year," he said. Surfing fans may use their boards anywhere except near piers and in the boardwalk area. They are welcome to join in the activities of the South Isle Surfing Club. Kepley said that all safeguards are taken to pro tect persons enjoying water sports. "As long as there are people on the beach you will see lifeguards," he em phasized. There are a number of good motels available for persons desiring to stay "just a day or two" at the beach.
