Miss Doralene Smith, a freshman at Douglass High School
was recently crowned "Miss Debutante" during the ceremony
of the Debutante Ball held In the school gymtorloum. Doralene
was crowned by Miss Mary Anne Lowe, "Miss Debutante" of
1967. The attendants for "Miss Debutante" of 1968 were as
follows: Misses Evelyn Boyette, Runners-up, Jacqueline Tyler,
second runners-up, Ella Mae Capers, Janice Armstrong, and
Joyce Carlton who were all contestants. Trophies were swarded
to "Miss Debutante" and runners-up.

"A Thing of Beauty Is A Joy Forever," was the theme for the
affair. Motifs of stars and swaying palm trees made an attractive
setting for the gay and colorful decoration that was done by the
Douglass Future Homemakers of America members.
The purpose of the program was to improve and encourage
development of desirable behavior patterns necessary for good
citizenship.
Over 300 persons witnessed the Ball which is an Annual Affair
sponsored by the Home Economics Department under the di
rections of Mrs. S. D. Hill, Vocational Home Economics, In
structor.
