She was award ed an Associate of Arts De gree. While at Peace. Harriet was secretary of the Honor Court a member of the Democrat Club, served on the periodical Peace Times, Staff and was a student Hostess. In her freshman year she was a class representative for the May court. Harriet expects to attend East Carolina University next year and plans to major in Elementary Education. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Erchey L. Lanier, Sr. of Rose Hill. CATHERINE DOUGLAS MATTOCKS was graduated from Greensboro College on June 2, 1968. She received an A. B. Degree with a major In ^Mathematics. She did her practice teaching In Page High School Math department, Gre ensboro. Cathy was graduated in three years, having attended summer school at UNC - Charlotte, WU . mington College and at Greens " boro College. Cathy was active In lnter minal sports while in college. Cathy has accepted a po sition with the Winston-Salem brand of Western Electric in the computer department. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. R. Mattocks of Rose Hill. LINDA FAYE TEACHEY was graduated from East Caro lina University at Greenville, N. C. on Sunday, May 26. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. The pin ning ceremony, at which time the student nurses received their pins denoting graduation, was held prior to the gradua tion exercises. In addition to her formal education obtained at the University, Linda has received clinical experience from four hospitals, namely, Pitt County Memorial Hospital, the Veterans Administrations Hospital at Oteen, Beaufort Co unty Hospital and John Unstead Hospital at Burner. Linda was an active mem ber of the Student Nurses As sociation during her four years of University Study. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. C. Teachey of Rose HilL ALICE JANE McCULLOUGH Alice Jane Is the daughter of Melachi McCullough and the late Mrs. McCullough, Sr. of Rose Hill and was graduated from Allen University in Co lumbia, S. C. this spriro. She majored in Elementary Educa tion and will begin teaching in Sumter, S. C. tnis summer. In the fall she expects to teach in Goldsboro, N. C. She was on the honor roll for the first semester of her Senior year. Alice Jane has a sister* Annie McCullough, who-will be a member of the Senior Class at Fayetteville State College next fall, and a brother, Ma lachl McCullough, Jr. who will be a Sophomore at Klttrell Col lege, Klttrell, N. C. the coming year. ELLA MAY FUSSELL Ella May Fussell is a mem ber of the rising Senior Class at East Carolina University. She is studying for a B. S. De gree in nursing. Ella May left Sunday for her summer of clin ical work at the Veterans Ad ministration Hospital at Oteen, N. C. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Fussell of Rose Hill. 8AY|Y0U SAW 1T IN ANH PRICE was graduated Cum Laude from Greensboro College on June 2nd. She re ceived a Bachelor of Arts De gree with a double major ? Philosophy and Religion and Spanish. While In College Ann was on the Deans List, was a mem ber of the Junior Honor Socie ty Gamma Iota Sigma. The Sen ior Honor Society Alpha Kappa Gamma and was President of the Student Christian Fellowship. She plans to teach in Duplin County next year. Ann is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Price of Rose Hill. j n? ww* i Juc. Albert Jay Cottle, Jr. re ceived a B.S.Degree In Health and Physical Education from East Carolina University on May 26, 1968. While at ECU Jay was a member of the Physical Ed ucation Majors club, the N. C. Association of Health and the Physical Education and Re creation Club. He Is a mem ber of Theta Chi Fraternity and served as an officer for his fraternity for two years. Jay is a Petty Officer first class in the U. S. Cottle of Rose Hill. JOHN SU RRATT John Peeler Surratt has completed his first year In Me dical School at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. After a few days at home John will be in Morganton. N. C. where he will spend the sum-: mer serving an Externshlp at the State Hospital. IRA JEFFERSON JOHNSON, JR. was among those being graduated from Mt. Olive Jr. College last Sunday, June 2. Ira majored in Business Ad ministration and was a member of the Student Government As sociation both years he was there. He was also a member of Phi Beta Lauebda and the Henderson Science Club. Ira wishes to continue his education but will have to wait until Uncle Sam releases him from duty. He expects to enter the U. S. Rose HU1 Elementary School #1 Athletic Awards were presented to: Bruce Herring, Most Valuable Football Player; Evelyn Johnson, Most Valuable Girl's Basketball Player; John Braddy, Most Valuable Boy's Basketball Player. Rose Hill Student Receives Degree Rose Hill Elementary School #1 graduation was held on Tues day night May 28 at 8 o'clock in the school auditorium. After the graduating students had marched in the invocation was said by Leo Jones. A welcome speech to pa rents, teachers, and friends, was presented bv Sylvia Ward, Salutatorian. Ine graduating class sang, "BornFree", "Im possible Dream", and "Moon River". Certificates were presented to the graduates by William R. Teachey, Principal. Mr. Tea chey also presented the Dau ghters of American Revolution medal for Outstanding Work in History in the seventh grade to Bruce Herring, and for Out standing Work in History in the eighth grade to Robert Jenkins. Leo Japes, president of.the Rose Hill Lions Club presented the Lions Club Scholastic Ar wards to Sharon Jones, Vale dictorian, Sylvia Ward, Salu tatorian. and Charles Savage, for Outstanding Work in Math. E arl Teachey presented tro phies to Bruce Herring, Most Valuable Football Player: John Braddy, Most Valuable Boy's Basketball Player; and Evelyn Johnson, Most Valuable Girl's Basketball Player. BROCK Lewis Weldon Brock was graduated from Campbell Col lege on May 31 with a Bachelor ol Science Degree and a major in Biology. The majority of these, will attend Charity High School next fall. W. F. Johnson is principal of the school. Valedictorian was Gwen dolyn Highsmith, and salu tatorium was Rita James. Perfect attendance was made by nineteen members of the class. 4 - H Delegates Tar Heel delegates to 4-H events in two other states have been announced by Dr. T. C. Blalock, state 4-H Club leader at North Carolina State Uni versity. Blalock said Belinda Holsh ouser, Rt. 5, Salisbury, and David Brown, Ahoskle, have been selected to attend theVir glnia 4-H Congress, June 24 29. and Linda Smith, Rt. 2, Pink Hill, and Selwyn Sampson, Pembroke, will be delegates to Georgia Leadership Citizenship Conference, June 23-26. "These delegates -were se lected from a long list of appli cants," the club leader em phasized. "Selection was based on outstanding 4-H and scho lastic achievements."
