This chair is removable and col lapsible and may be stored un der the 1st floor to make room for an additional cot in case more than one person needs ambulance service. The walls of the unit are lined with cabinets which were made of plywood and are co vered with formica. From the side door in back. of the driver's seat, the first cabinet contains leg and arm padded splints. The next ca binet contains small spine bo ards and Thomas leg splints. The front cabinet contains bandage, gauze, pads, and tapes, and amouth-to-maskre suscitator. Also in this area of the ambulance is an adult resuscitator, a pediatric resus citator, an aspirator, and a spare oxygen head. The left hand cabinet conta ins large spine board and a spare oxygen tank. At the head of the stretcher is placed the an oxygen tank. A strategically located cabinet Contains an ax, hack saw, wre cking bar, door opener, and a fire extinguisher. The amDui ance is also eq uipped with two beacon ray red lights on a chrome base. An electric sirene releases it's blood curdling screams through two speakers mounted atop the can beside the red lights. Each ambulance is equipped with a two-way radio on Civil Defense frequency and has a remote base stationed in the hospital which enables the am bulances to have radio connec tions with the hospital. hi addition to the units lo cated at Magnolia, Rose Hill and Duplin Gener id Hospital are locallv owned units at Ken ans ville and F aison. These two units are subsidized by the co unty in the amount of the le ased vehicles. Other areas of the county ha ve been provided ambulance se rvice by private enterprise which will be reimbursed by the county at the same rates as the leased vehicles. Island Creek, Limestone, Ro ckfish, Cypress Creek townsh ips and the part of Smith which is covered by the Beu lavllle Telephone Exchange will call Edgerton Funeral Home for ambulance service. Pink Hill Rescue Squad will service the part of Albertson and Smith Townships that is covered by the Pink Hill Te lephone Exchange. All ambulance fees will be collected by the county, and all ambulance service is under the direction of the County Civil Defense Office of which Stephen M. (Steve) Williamson is direc tor. In case of Emergency call the Rescue Squad serving your area. Non emergency cafis sh ould be made to the Office of Civil Defense whose tele phone number is 206 HH. All man power operating Du plin County ambulances is on volunteer basis. These men have put in amny long hours of preparation in order to meet the qualifications required by North Carolina Board of Health. Ray Hops standing project work.
