The P withers and Vikings battled on even terms for tn ird periods before the P withers clawed their way to victory in the fourth stanza behind the standout performance of quart erback Mickey Qulnn. Quinn passed 38 yards to Ivey Out law to the one yard to set up the TD. Quinn sneaked over to give the Panthers their fir st win ever over the Vikings. Coach Dick Powers said, *It was a big win for us and a real team effort". "There is no need to say or name two or three boys that were outstand ing, this was a one hundred per cent team victory." the likeable Panther skipper stated. Chacii Thel Overman's Wal lace-Rose Hill Bulldogs op ened the season defeating the Yellow Jackets of Elizabethtown 33-0 in a non-con ference test. The Bulldogs sparkplug qu arterback Jimmy Jerome nad a hand in four of the fire touch downs. Jerome has been lis ted as one of the outstanding backs in the east. Jerome hit back Angus Phillips on a 40 yard tally and passed 12 yards to scatback David Wells for another. He raced 20 years for another score and ended the night going 8 for another. Jeff Carter plunged 16 for the fifth Bulldog TD. Lance Turner scoreatwo pats. Halfback Leslie Stray horn fi gured in two Rocket touchdowns to lead Jones Central over Ri chlands. 33-13. Jones Central rolled to a 21-0 first half lead, with Strayhorn running two of the ED'S and passing for the third. His runs were for one and 78 yards. He tossed a 26 yard TD to Jimmy Smith. BUI Hawkins ran 28 yards in the third for the first Wildcat sc ore. Quarterback Ward How ard sneaked over from the two for Rkhlands other score. Kirby Smith made good on two extra points to give Wh itevllle a 20-19 win over Bur gaw in a non-conference game. Burgaw Jumped off to a 13-6 first period lead after spotting Whiterille a 6-0 margin when the Wolfpack's Greg Cameron returned the opening kickoff 88 yards. Burgsw got Its thi rd period touchdown on a two yard run by Fred Dees. Massey Hill drove 71 yards in the opening period to take the lead, climaxed by 16 yard pass from quarterback Terry Luck to halfback Jimmy Bax ley. Luck passed to Baxley for the pat. In the second quarter tackle Quane Millard scooped up a bl ocked punt and raced 18 yards for James Ken en's lone touch down. Back Steve Sutton's at tempt was no good. The Pir ates marched 40 yards for ano ther second period score and a 13-6 lead. With 23 seconds left in the first half Smltty Wits intercep ted a JK pass aid raced 44 yards for the Pirates third TD. Schedules had to be re-vamped , and the different orgaiizations had to be re organised. The Student Council met with the advisors, Mrs. Tyler ?id Mr. N. Bonev.
