Ward Far rior of Rose Hill are happy to announce the birth of a great grandson and great granddau ghter: Raymond Lloyd McF ayden was corn on September 2,1968 in New Hanover Memorial Hos pital, Wilmington, and weighed seven pounds. The parents are Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd T. Mc Fayden, Jr., of Wilmington. Mrs. McFayden is the former Judith Ann Teachey and the granddaughter of the Farriors; Cecilia Holmes Brown was born on September 14th In the Artleburg, Massachusetts. Hos pital. She weighed seven and a half pounds and her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Brown of Artleburg, Mass. Mrs. Brown was MlssSandraHolmes Merrltt of Wilmington and also the granddaughter of the Far riors. We extend our con gratulations to the Farriors. With The Sick Miss Betty Jo Matthews, da ughter of Mr. and Mrs. Prott Matthews entered Pender Mem orial Hospital on Tuesday for a tonsllectomy. Her mother is with her and reports that she is doing well. Mrs. Eva F. Bradshaw who lives on East Main Street, is a patient at Sampson Memorial Hospital in Clinton. She is undergoing tests and X-rays for diagnosis and will receive treatment while there. Friends and family hope she will soon be well enough to return home. Mrs. Winifred Rouse Oawson is reported as holding her own in a Lenoir County Hospital after having been seriously injured in a wreck last week. Mrs. Marcellus Rochelle of Burg aw, the former Miss Norma Fussell of Rose Hill, has had-surgery in her knee in the Pender County Memorial Hospital. She is getting along nicely. Attend Wedding In Virginia Mr. and Mrs. Alton Matthews and daughter, Miss Patsy Mat thews. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Matthews, Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Matthews and Mr. and Mrs. Willie Floyd attended the wed ding of Joseph Matthews to Miss Nancy Ray in Scheuyler, Virginia on October 12th. Miss Ray is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Ray of Schuyler, and Mr. Matthews is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alton Matt hews. The young couple honeymoon ed in tne Hue Ridge Mountains stopping at various places along the Parkway, and ended their trip with a visit to Topsail Beach. They are now in their new home near Rose Hill on The Good Old Doys Rose Hill Bosket Boll Teem 1941 Iwemy seven years ago this basketball team was of prime interest to the people of the town and of great importance to their opponents in the county for they were known as hard players who played to win. Their coach was Mr. Thurmon Denning, then teach ing here, but now superintend ant of Sampson County Schools. We don't remember their record of wins or losses that year, but do remember that there were more wins, for the team finished first in the county tournament. Matthews of Rose HOI; and Anna Holmes Lee vis, who married McDonaldRouse and lives In Rockingham. Service Man Off The Week Sgt. Jonathan ("Joe") Roch elle, a native of Rose Hill, has been in service for six years and recently finished his tour of duty in Vietnam. He left the states from Fort Ulx, N J. on September 28,1967 and returned on Sept. 23,1968. Sgt. Rochelle was stationed near Cher-hoi with Co. C4 Bn, 31st Infantry 196L1B, a part of the American Division and ser ved as platoon ,Sgt of the.3rd platoon. He was awarded the Bronze Star with the V-device for bravery and the Oak Leaf Cluster tor meritorious ser vice. Before entering the service this Rose Hill soldier had gone to Philadelphia to live with his aunt. While there he became a member of Moore's Memor ial Baptist Church and had ser ved as Sunday School Super Intend ant, trustee and member of the choir. On his return home he was honored by a "Welcome Home" service civ en by his church. His mother was fortunate to be able towel come him back in Philadelphia and attend this service. Sgt. Rochelle is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Anthony of the Charity Community near Rose Hill. While here ne at tended New Christian Chapel Baptist Church. He is agra duate of Charity High School. After going to Philadelphlato stay he was married and he and his wife make their official residence there. Sergeant Rochelle's new as signment for duty is at Xavier University, in Clncinattl, Ohio, as an R.O.T.C. Beta 1*1110 The Beta Club Induction was held on October 15th In the Wal lace-Rose Hill High School Gym. The president, Martha Dall, and other members of the club presented a program Ill ustrating the purpose, Ideals, and meaning of the Beta Club. To become a Beta Club mem ber a student must maintain a scholastic of at least 90, and must be approved for mem bership by the principal. Ac hievement, character, and lea dership are considered oual ltles necessary for member ship.
