Pr esident of Wilmington College was the principal speaker. Dr. Wagoner pointed out that our last frontier is not outer-space but the areas in the swamps, sounds, oceans and waterways. The youthful educator said the local communities are not self supporting entities within them selves but are dependent upon the development of the entire area. Several Duplin community had been judged earlier in the 6- year by a panel of area Jud ges, and the communities of Magnolia and Dobson's Chapel was selected as having made the most impressive gains in the area of income, home im provement, youth development, and community projects. The placing of Magnolia as 2nd pla ce in the SENCland Develop ment area carried a cash aw ard of SI00.00. Dobson's Ch apel received acheckforSSO.OO as third place winner. Rudolph Becton is president of the Magnolia club, and O.C. Dobson heads the Dobson's Ch apel organization. Some thirty persons from Duplin were In attendance at the awards pro gram. O.C. RESOLUTION: Mrs. Ada Hssssy Williams With feelings of deepest sor row and regret, the Women of Smith's Presbyterian Church must record the passing of one of it's most beloved and res pected members, Mrs. Ada Hussey Williams, who passed away on November 6, 1968. Because we realize to the ful lest extent the benefits which our church and the entire com munity have received from the work of this dedicated Chris tian, and because of the warm personal feelings she inspired in our hearts By her kind un selfish life. DEATH John Powell WALLACE-Mr. John Powell, age 91, died Monday morning at his home. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 3:30 from the Wallace Presbyterian Church. Services conducted by Rev. J.G. Morrison. Interment followed in Rockfish Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Martha S. Powell, one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Fields of Wallace; three sons, Luther Powell. George Powell, Charles Powell, all of Wallace; ten grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. Pallbearers were AJ.
