Strickland was nos tess to die members of her bridge club and additional gues ts on Thursday evening at her home on Memorial Drive. (Staff Photo Ruth Wells) Cook-out Honors JK Seniors A cook-out for the James Kenan seniors, their mascots, and their sponsors was given at eight o'clock on Friday ev ening at the Duplin Country Cl ub. The cook-out was given by some of the parents of the seniors, and they were Mr. and Mrs. Mllford Quinn, Mr. and Mrs. John Fonvielle, Mr. and Mrs. Maruice Jordon, Dr. and Mrs. Lewis Recce, Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Britt, Mr. and Mrs. Willoughby Millard, Mr. and Mrs. John C. Pridgen, Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. B.K. Wilson. Present in addition to the seniors were their mascots, A1 Worthington and Allison Ro use and their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert' Worthington and Mr. and Mrs. Ward Rouse. Also present were senior sp onsors Mr. and Mrs. Faison McGowan, Mr. and Mrs. Richard WilUstie and Freder ick and Mr.~and Mrs. Leo Lanier. The serving table was de corated with a graduation cap for the center piece with dai sies, ivy, a black and gold bow, and a dimploma around it. A gold cloth was also used with candles at each end of the ta ble. The menu consisted of hamburgers, hot, dogs, baked beans, potato chips, pickles, soft drinks, and cakes. Following the supper records were played in the club room and dancing was enjoyed by the group. Former Duplin Native Dies Vl.? DAMU 1t??r? r7? mi j. nsoi u ?ui, iv, a native of Duplin County, died in Colonial Heights, Virginia on May 22. The funeral, con ducted by her pastor, was held at the J. T. Morris Funeral Home at one o'clock Saturday with interment in Sunset Me morial Park. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hales of Rocky Mount, Mrs. Margaret Baker and Mrs. Martha Talbott of Colonial Heights, and Mrs. Be tty Jane McCallum of Chiefland, Florida; one son, James A. Jordon, Jr. of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a brother, Joshua We st of California; and 16 grand children and 18 great-grand children. The new Juniors formed the Friendship Circle with older members of the troop. They " sang, "Make New Friends" and several other songs. They also said the Girl Scout Prayer. Following the flylng-up cere mony, the Juniors served pea nuts, cookies, and pepsis. Fly-Up To Cadetles A flying-up ceremony for the Junior Girl Scouts who are going up to Cadettes was held at Ca rlton's Pond Wednesday even ing. James Kenan Chapter UDC The James Kenan Chapter, United Daughters of the Con federacy, met on Wednesday afternoon May 14 in the home of Mrs. Rivers D. Johnson, Sr. with Mrs. J.A. Porter, Mrs. W.E. Taylor, and Mrs. QJ, Sutton as joint hostesses. Mrs. Robert L. West, pres ident, presided. Mrs. Fred J.' Baars led the Ritual, and Mrs. N.B. Boney led the Pledge and Salute to the Flags. A special offering was taken for the Vietnamese Veterans. A transfer of membership into this chapter from Mrs. C. Grainger Komegay, mother of Mrs. N.B. Boney of Kenansvi lle, was submitted and accep ted. Mrs. Woodrow Blackburn announced plans for a joint Memorial Service in front of the Warsaw Post Office of May ? SO at twelve o'clock noon. The James Kenan Chapter members are urged to come with the Sc outs and members of the Am erican Legion. Mjrs. Henry L. Stevens, Jr. reported that magazines were sent to the Rest Home. The program for the after noon was presented by Mrs. W. W. Blackburn who told the his tory of the fifteen flags used during the Confederacy. She was assisted by Mrs. Lucy Gra ham. Mrs. Paul Potter gave the report of the Nominating Com mittee which was duly accepted. Mrs. Henry L, Stevens, Jr. Installed the following officers: President, Mrs. Robert L. Admissions To Duplin General The following list of patients were admitted to Duplin Gen eral Hospital during the week ending May 25. Patients dis missed will not be listed but the average stay in a hospital is about six days. Visiting hours are 2 to 4 pjn. and 6:30 to 8:00 pjn. No morning visiting.
