Recipe Of Week I TO: Home Economist - North Carolina News Media SUBJECT: Recipe of the Week The North Carolina Poultry Federation is pleased to furnish this week to the housewives in North Carolina and good cooks everywhere a very delicious barbecue chicken" recipe. The Hawaiian barbecue sau?e con tained in the recipe is appro priately named for the state of Hawaii, where barbecue chi cken is a favorite. Just as it is throughout all America. Certainly, summer is cook out time, and what could be better than barbecued chicken? Golden brown barbecue chicken is an all-time, all-American favorite, a sure fire success for outdoor cooking, and of co urse for any outdoor play. Hawaiian barbecue sauce makes enough to baste 3 to 4 chickens. BARBECUE CHICKEN RECIPE WITH HAWAIIAN BARBECUE SAUCE 1 can (9 ounces) crushed pine apple 1/4 cup soy sauce 1/4 cup vinegar 1/4 cup salad oil 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger 1 tablespoon sugar Combine ingredients well. Brush on brotler-fryer halves or quarters and keep burshlng frequently as the bird is bar becued. Place broiler-fryer chicken halves or quarters skin side up on grate set 3 to 6 inches from heat. Brush ch icken with Hawaiian Barbecue Sauce from time to time while cooking. Cook until tender. Al low 45 minutes to 1 1/4 hours total cooking time, depending on weight of chicken and distance from heat. To test for done ness, leg should fed tender when probed by a fork. Electric Living Specialist Carolina Powor ft Light Company tUMJ rush hour through bedtime baths, this room is (he family grooming center. Recent years have brought long overdue glamour to the bathroom and with it "right" lighting for the bee hive of activities today's bathroom must serve. v The bathroom is used for much more than baths, showers, facewashing, and toothbrushing. It's a place for hand launder ing, hair brushing, shampooing and styling, touch-ups, and tin ting, shaving, putting make-up on and taking it off, manicuring and pedicuring, and "doctoring" cuts and bruises. Lighting is important for all of these activities. And it is possible to pro vide adequate lighting and still combine a decorative flair with the purely functional need to see. Older bathrooms may be relying on one ceiling fixture with a small light over a mirrored medicine cabinet. Such a bathroom definitely needs to be updated light-wise. The results are eas ier, more accurate grooming and increased safety. Adequate lighting decreases the risk of misreading medicine labels. After deciding how much light is needed for the size of the room determine what kind of fixtures you prefer. Keeep in mind the general decorating scheme of your home. Bathroom light fixtures are designed to meet colonial, traditional, or modern decor. The mirror is the focal point of grooming, and, therefore, the hub of lighting for the room. There should be light sources on both sides of a mirror or medicine cabinet and on the ceil ing above it to obtain shadowless lighting on the face, head, and neck. Side-lighting for the mirror or medicine cabinet may be achieved in several ways. By the use of wall lamps that come in many styles to coordinate with the decor used, or recessed fixtures. Mirrors can be framed with a row of shielded fl uorescent lamps in a soffit or a fixture running the width of the mirror. Complexion lights are becoming more popular.' These are a series of limits that surround the mirror -- ideal for make-up. They are available in several styles. Celling light may be recessed or surface mounted with cither a single unit in the center or a series of smaller bullet-type lights spaced for greatest effectiveness. Recessed fixtures deliver a cone of light, the amount depending on the size of the unit and bulb used. On the other hand, surface mounted fixtures will usually provide some sidclighting which diffuses in a bounce effect against the ceiling. For soft, shadowless light throughout the room, have fluorescent tubes installed behind a ceiling of translucent panels. The panels lift out for washing. In keeping with the new more decorative trend, Consider a chandelier. Small crystal chandeliers or country - style mini-wagon wheels are a departure from the conventional. A light over the tub or shower is advisable since doors or curtains do shut out light. Then there are exhaust fans which remove odors and excess moisture from the air, that fit into the ceiling and are equipped with lights. These combinations are also available with a heating unit. Another ceiling in stallation provides a sunlamp, worth considering if your room is large enough to include a lounger or chaise. While you're up-lifting the illumination in the bathroom, don't forget to Include electrical outlets to accommodate the many modern grooming aids from electric shavers and hair dryers to manicure sets. Many older bathrooms have no plug in facilities. It costs very little more to add them when wiring for new lighting fixtures. Then with proper light fixtures and outlets installed, you can rejuvenate almost any bathroom with coordinated and washable paint, wallpaper, adhesive-backed tiles, fabric, and carpeting. If needed, add a few new accessories such as, towel bars, hampers, storage units. But do start refurnishing with good lighting. . ? ? !
