for educational facilities which
exists today. The carefully de- %
tailed results of that survey
show an urgent need for faci
lities now.
The survey also reveals whs
t will be, without an fanmn
diate response, an overwhel
ming need by 19TO. Clearly,
the time has again come for
the state to reassert Its role
in the partnership.
In February the State Board
of Education requested the Ge
neral Assembly to approve a
referendum on $300 million in
school construction bonds. Af
ter careful study and delibera
tion, both legislative houses al
most unanimously approved the
proposal.
Gov. Hoishouser proclaimed
die election for Nov. 8 *nd ur
ged all cltlsens to support the
bond Issue.
State Treasurer Edwin Gill
enthusiastically supported the
bond issue on both economic
md educational grounds, "not
only as your State Treasurer,
but as a member of die Board
of Education. I know the needs
to be met, and I recommend
a high priority to be given to
our public school needs."
Last week. Mr. GUI. a mem
ber of the committee working
to inform the people of the ne
cessity and importance of the
bond issue, reaffirmed his su
pport.
