ment Disabilities Planning Institute, UNC Chapel
HBI. held a special two-day workshop din Monday
and Tqesday at James Sprunt Institute. The
following Duplin County agencies were repre
sented: Mental Health, Public Health, Region P

Head start, Public Schools and Social Services.
The purpose; of the workshop was to teach the
above mentioned professionals how to wort with
the mentally retarded and also to help in
long-range planning in order to,, make the
mentally retarded more self-sustaining.

Eight of eleven stolen pigs
were recovered by the Sheriffs v
Department Monday.

rectly. ..And on Monday I went

what?.. .Monday was a holiday,
so even had I done the lettering
like the youngster suggested, it

The Dixon S. Hall Scholarship
Committee on behalf of the
Jamel Sprunt Institute Board of
Trustees is pleased to announce
that Edna Laurine Aycock of
Koute 2, Faison, has been
selected as the first recipient at
the Dixon S. Hall Scholarship
Award. i ?
In hopor of Dixon S. Hall, who
served as president of James
Sprunt Institute from its incep
tion in 1964 until his resignation
in November, 1976, the award is
granted to a graduating senior
from one of the Duplin County
high schools who plans to
pursue an Associate in Applied
Science Degree in one of the
Business curricula offered at
James Sprunt.
As its first recipient, Edna
plans to enter James Sprunt
Institute in the fall of 1977 to
major in Business Administra
tion. Edna was chosen on the
basis of her academic achieve
ment, reflected in her ranking in
the top 10 percent of her
graduating class. As a senior at
North Duplin High School, she
has been an active member in
the Beta Club, F.T.A. and
French Club. She has been the
recipient of many awards,
among them the Math Award
(Algebra II), French I and D

Youths flold
Two Durham youths, Vernon
W. Dickerson, Jr., and Roy
Hobbs, both 27, were charged
with breaking, entering and
larceny by Wallace police and
were lodged in the County jajf
Monday, each under $700 Bond.
They were charged with baa ah
ing into two automobiles and
entering the Downtown Motor
Lodge.
The owner of one vehicle.
Mack Sawyer of Washington,
reported a CB radio and a brief
case with some safe parts, a tool
box with wrenches and a rule
were stolen. He valued the loss
at $350.
Daniel Harold King of Sea
board, Dela., owner of the other
vehicle, reported a CB, 2 tape
measures and a rule, valued at
$143, milling. Moot of the loss
was reportedly recovered.
