Faison News Pastor Honored The chancel choir of the Faison United Methodist Church surprised their pastor, Rev. P. C. Yelverton, with a birthday party at the parsonage following rehearsal Monday, January 7. Twenty-one members of the choir, the honoree and his aunt, Miss Clyde Min shew were served punch, decorated birthday cake, cheese stars, peanut butter sticks, nuts, mints, chocolate balls, ffench onion dip and potato chips. Brothers Receive Awards Sunday, Jan. 13, just be fore the worship service at Faison Presbyterian Church, Geoffrey and Steve Carter, sons of Mrs. Faye Carter, were awarded the God and Country Award by the pastor, Rev. Joe Sloan has returned to Florida after spending several days with his grand mother, Mrs. J.X. Morton. They celebrated Mrs. Morton's 90th birthday while he was here. Kenansville News Personals Mrs. N.B. Boney attended the D.A.R. ' meeting in Goldsboro last Tuesday afternoon held in the Wayne Memorial Library. Mrs. E.S. McGowan, Mrs. Bill Eubanks and Mrs. Hazel W. Scott accompanied Miss Mary Lee Sykes to UGrange last Tuesday to visit Mrs. Eloise K. Ryder. Mrs. Margaret 0. Dail had eye surgery last Friday in Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville. Mrs. N.B. Boney and Mrs. E.S. McGowan attended the U.D.C. meeting held in the Warsaw Methodist Church Sunday afternoon, at which time the James Kenan Chapter awarded five Military Crosses. Mrs. Dixon Hall attended a church meeting in Golds boro last Thursday. The following ladies from Kenansville assisted with the Bloodmobile in Warsaw last Thursday: Louise K. Boney, Sally B. Tyndall, Virginia Penney and Mary Lee Sykes. Presbyterian Women Meet Circle #1 of the Women of Grove Presbyterian Church met last Monday afternoon with Mrs. Bertha Hollings worth. The meeting was presided over by Mrs. A.T. Outlaw and Miss Annie Catherine Rhodes moderated the Bible study. She was assisted by Mrs. J.B. Stroud, Mrs. Ralph Barwick, Mrs. Thomas Chestnutt, Mrs. Hollingsworth and Mrs. Outlaw. A social hour followed the closing prayer. The hostess served jffpanese fruit pie and coffee to the seven present. Circle #2 met that night with Mrs. Lloyd Stevens. Mrs. Martha P. Sitterson presided and Mrs. J.J. Wells moderated the Bible study. The topic in each circle was "The Lord's Day." For re freshments, the hostess, assisted by her mother, Mrs. Jack Sitterson, served pound cake and coffee to the eleven ladies present. Homemakers Gob The South Kenansville Extension Homemakers Gub held its January meeting in the home of Mrs. W.M. Ingram last Friday afternoon with ten members present in spite of the inclement weather. The new president, Mrs. Clarence Murphy, pre sided. The opening song was led by Mrs. Louise W. Mit chell. Mrs. Ingram con ducted the devotional which was a brief "In Memoriam for the late Thelma Smith Stroud. The program on con venience foods was in charge of Mrs. J.B. Stroud, who was presented a gift from the club by Virginia Holland in appreciation of her service as president for the past four years, and for all of her other services'to the community. After closing with the club collect, the hostess, assisted by Mrs. Mitchell, served spiced cake, cheese wafers and coffee. Baptist Circle* Mrs. David English was hostess for the Cora Stokes Circle of the ladies of the Baptist Church Monday afternoon, Jan. 14. with Mrs. George Penney presiding and giving the opening devotional. The program, "Work of Home and Foreign Missionaries," was presented by Mrs. Cleora Hudson. For refreshments, Mrs. English served pine apple cake, salted nuts and Russian tea. Mrs. Colon Holland was' hostess for the Ella Cooper Circle Monday night with nine members present. Mrs. Ray Bell presided and was in charge of the program. She discussed the Requirements of Mission aries. Mrs. Rose Swain had the call to prayer. For re freshments, Mrs. Holland served lemonade pie, salted peanuts and coffee. United Methodist Women The afternoon circle of the United Methodist Church met Monday afternoon with Mrs. W.M. Ingram. Mrs. Alton Newton presided and made the opening prayer. The program was in charge of the pastor, the Rev. J. C. Stokes, Jr., who spoke on the importance of daily Bible reading. Mrs. H.D. Taylor closed the meeting with prayer, after which the hostess served spice cake and coffee. She was assisted by Mrs. Walter Smith. There were seven members present. Kontract Klub Mrs. Mattie W. Barbee entertained the Kenansville Kontract Klub last Thursday night with a dessert bridge. As her guests arrived, thev were served jello and whipped cream with date bars and coffee. Adelaide Rice and Mary Lee Sykes substituted for two absent members. They were each presented a gift. Club high score prize was won by Martha Swann after several progressions of bridge. Personals Mrs. Eddie Rhodes has been taken to a rest home in Greenville where she will be a resident. . 40th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Jay Sloan were honored by their children with a 40th Wedding Anniversary reception* on Sundajr, January 6 in the Fountain town Community Building. About 160 friends and rela tives attended. The guests were received by Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Sloan. Miss Sue Sloan presided at the gift table. Colors of red and white decorated the reception room. The center piece was of red and white carnations and silver can delabra accented the white lace tablecloth. The three-tiered cake was deco rated with tiny red rosebuds. Mrs. Reba Fountain and Mrs. Deedie Sloan served the cake, and Mrs. Ann Sloan served Dunch. Mrs. Elvis Fountain, Mrs. Vera Fountain, Mrs. Doris Wood and Mrs. Nell Bryan assisted with the servinp.
