Faison Town Board Lets Water Bids Contracts for Faison's $377,400 water improvement project were let during the Tuesday night meeting of the town board. A $28,000 contract was awarded to Carolina Well & Pump Co. of Sanford for the installation of a new well. The second contract for SI74,600 was let to Brown Steel Co. of Newman, Ga. for the construction of a 300,000 gallon elevated storage tank. A third contract for $91,680 was awarded to T.A. Loving of Goldsboro for improve ment to the filter plant, a new wellhouse. and the ele vated tank foundation. The final contract of S31.532 was let to Cumberland Paving of Fayetteville for distribution improvements. The project is being financed by S230.000 in general obligation bonds, a $39,800 Farmers Home Ad ministration grant, a $90,500 clean water grant, and $14,100 from the town of Faison. An additional $3,000 will come from the interest of the bonds and clean water grant which the town plans to put into short-term invest ments until the funds are needed to finance the project as it is completed. Bids for sections two through four of the water improvement project were rebid in March after the Faison commissioners found the February bids too ex pensive. However, the bid on section one, or the installa tion of a new well, was held over until the April meeting and approved with bids on the remaining sections of the system. The bid on section four, the distribution system, in cluded 4,000 feet of six-inch line, and the project engi neer, Finley Boney of Raleigh, said that the $10,513 of contingency funds could be usetlto increase the distribution system by 2,000 feet. According to Boney, Cumberland Paving submitted a bid of SS.10 per foot to install six-inch water lines. He added that the town could not do the job for less. Other costs in the water improvement project include $23,925 for engineering and inspection fees, $15,150 for interest during construction, $2,000 for legal and adminis trative fees, and $10,513 of contingency funds. The total cost of the project is $377,400 which is $7,600 less than the project cost of $385,000 when the bond referendum was passed last August. The board moved to award the contracts to the lowest bidders after final approval from the FmHA. The board also instructed Town Ad ministrator Neil Mallory to I prepare $265,000 of general obligation bonds for sale. ^ CLINTON ???????? fCINEMA THEATRE I Start.
