Kenansville News Shower and Dinner Party On May 12th, Miss Wylene Booth, bride-elect of May, was honored with a dinner party in the home of Mrs, C.J. James in Wallace, with her daughter. Jennifer of Fuquay Springs as co hostess. The honoree and her mother, Mrs. W.T. Booth, were both pinned with a white corsage upon their arrival. The formal dining room table was centered with "an arrangement of spring flowers. Twelve guests attended and Wylene was presented pieces of her cry stal. A paper shower was given for Miss Booth Tuesday. May 13th, in the home of Mrs. Nadine Blanton in Kenansville. Cohostesses were Mrs. Chris Bass, Mrs. Leona Brinson and Miss Kathy Helton. Miss Booth opened such useful gifts as paper towels, paper envelopes and paper money. The refreshment table held a centerpeice of spring flowers. The twelve guests enjoyed pound cake, finger foods and lime punch. United Methodist Women The afternoon circle of the Kenansville United Metho dist Women met Monday. May 12, with Mrs. E.S. McGowan. Mrs. Viola Quinn called the meeting to order. The opening prayer was made by Mrs. Myrtle Quinn. The program was in charge of Mrs. W.M. Ingram. Her topic was the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament. A social hour followed and the hostess, assisted by Mrs. Walter Smith, served straw berry shortcake. The evening circle met with Mrs. Henry Guy. The opening prayer and program were given by Mrs. Dixon Hall. Her topic was Commit ment to Missions. The busi ness session was presided over by Mrs. Ed Rector. During the social hour which followed, the hostess served apple pie a-la-mode with coffee or iced drink to the six present. Presbyterian Women Circle #1 of the Women of Grove Presbyterian Church met Monday afternoon. May 12, with Mrs. Ralph Barwick. Mrs. A.T. Outlaw called the meeting to order and pre sided. Eastern Star At the regular stated meeting of Kenansville Chapter #215 held Tuesday night, the Worthy Matron Joyce Williams and Worthy Patron Kermit Williams were in their respective stations. A highlight of the meeting was the renewing of the Obli gation led by the Worthy Patron. The next stated meeting will be on May 27th. Hon tract Klub Mrs. E.S. McGowan was hostess for the Kenansville Kontract Klub last Thursday night. Mrs. E.C. Tyndall and Mrs. Ellis Vestal substituted for two absent members. Mrs. Mattic Barbee won high score prize for the members, and Mrs. Vestal for visitor; Between pro gressions, the hostess served ice cream topped with straw berries. Baptist Circles The Cora Stokes Circle of the Baptist Church met last Monday afternoon at the church. Mrs. Cleora Hudson made the opening prayer and presided. The program was in charge of Mrs. Ellis Vestal. She discussed the Moslem Faith and closed the meeting with prayer. The Ella Cooper Circle met that night with Mrs. E.C. Tvndall. SUMMER FELLOWSHIP RECIPIENT Ms. Karen Dawes, instruc tor of Sociology, has been awarded a Summer Fellow ship by the National Endow ment for the Humanities. Ms. Dawes will be attending a Seminar led by Dr. John Reed, Professor of Sociology, UNC-Chapel Hill, from June ? 23 through August 15, 1980. The Seminar is entitled "Continuity and Change in Southern Culture" and focuses on "popular and literary images and stereo types of the South and Southerners which contri bute to persisting regional self-consciousness." Sciences in institutions of I higher education in a nation wide competition. f i roberts to attend harvard on post f doctoral grant Dr. Adrian Ray Roberts, Jr., formerly of Warsaw and 1 presently of Durham, will l attend Harvard University i during the July summer term ; of 1980. During that term he will be pursuing a post- ^ doctoral study consisting of participation in an educa tional institute aa well as conducting research in the area of education*! feedback technology. His study will be funded, in part, from grants through the Southern Con sortium of Colleges of Teacher Education and North Carolina Central University. Roberts is presently an associate professor of educa- f tion at North Carolina Cen tral University and an adjunct (part-time) professor with East Carolina Univer sity. He is formerly a princi pal . and teacher with ' the Duplin County Schools and a federal programs director with the Tarboro City Schools. Roberts received his B.S., f Magna Cum Laude, in 1968 and his M.A. degree in 1970 from East Carolina Univer sity. He received the doctoral degree in 1976 from Duke University. His dissertation study was entitled "A Study of the Use of An Electronic Feedback System in the De cision-Making Process of Se lected North Carolina School Districts."
