Keeping 17 Schools Going
J. L. Rhodeii
Of the many successful
programs within the Duplin
County school system, one of
the most important but often
overlooked departments is
the maintenance depart
ment. Not much information
concerning the maintenance
crew reaches the headlines,
but what a tremendous job J
L. Rhodes, maintenance
supervisor, and his staff have
done. To keep 17 schools
functioning properly is
indeed a great responsibility;
just think of the time and
money you spend in main
taining your own home, and
then multiply that by 17,
That gives you some idea of
the enormous task they
undertake.
Recently a letter of com
mendation from W. J. Steel
man, a regional inspector, to
Superintendent C. H.
Yelverton was read before
the Ouplin County Board of
Education. In the letter.
Steelman says: "The boilers
and pressure vessels were
the best prepared for in
spection of any that I have
inspected in my 24-county
area. Also, the boiler rooms
and spaces were verv clean
and free of fire ha/ards. That
takes hard work and a lot of
attention as you know."
It is comforting to know
that the Duplin County
schools have such a top
notch and conscientious
maintenance department.
Congratulations to J. L.
Rhodes and the rest of the
maintenance staff and we
urge you to keep up the good
work!
