COSMETOLOGY LICENSING EXAM GIVEN AT JSTC - Seventeen persons from southeastern North Carolina registered and took the N.C. State Cosmetic Arts License exam at James Sprunt Technical College on June IS. The exam was conducted in the cosmetology department under the supervision of Nell Cox of the State Board of Cosmetic Arts Inspector, and Zada Noe, chairperson of the N.C. I"" " -e> Beaufort Actress Retumes For Third Season fatura Hunter, an actress with the 1979 and 1980 seasons of THE LIBERTY CART, will return to perform two roles in the 1981 pro duction of Randolph Um berger's historical outdoor drama. Hunter will also per form in the two Second Stage productions scheduled. A graduate of the Univer sity of North Carolina at Greensboro, Laura Hunter is presently drama director and English instructor at West over Senior High School. As a director, her credits include You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Of Poems, Youth and Spring, The Sandbox, Hansel and Gretel and The Vel veteen Rabbit. Hunter has acted in re gional and repertory theatre productions of The Chil dren's Hour, Birdbath, It Happened Here, and Dark at the Top of the Stairs. As a theatrical technician, Hunter has worked as a costumer for Aria da Capa, Count Dracula, Twelfth Night, Peter Pan. and The Good Doqt^r. and she has worked backstage for Company, Cabaret, and Dark of the Moon. In the 1980 production. Hunter will portray Sarah Love Kenan and Sally Dortch, two central charac ters in Umberger's historical drama of the development of Eastern North Carolina. Indiana Actress working at The Liberty Cart Shanna Beth McGee, a senior theatre arts major at Appalachian State Univer sity, will be working as a performer and costume assistant at THE LIBERTY CART. Every night before the 8:15 curtian. Beth will be performing 15 minutes of preshow music. She will also be in the two Second Stage productions. Shanna Beth McGee re cently recorded an album with Folkways Record of New York City. The album is entitled "Love is Teasing, Scottish and English Early Ballads," and will be on sale at the concession stand during intermission. Besides being a recording artist, McGee brings an impressive list of acting and technical theatre credentials to THE LIBERTY CART. She has acted for the Inn Cabaret and the Happy Hollow Players in West Lafayette, Indiana, and the Newman Players of Chapel Hill. She studied voice at Appalachian State University and DePaul Uni versity. Her acting credits at ASU include The Good Doctor, Lysistrata, Captive Voices, and The Miser. Shanna Beth lists her favorite roles as Mag in Lovers, Frosine in The Myrhinne in Lysistrata, and Joan in Godspell. McGee plans to return to Boone in the fall to complete her musical theatre degree. While studying at ASU, she also serves as secretary for the ASU theatre office. She has received the ASU theatre talent award in the spring of '81 and the Ex cellence in Theatre award in 1980 and '81. She is a member of Alpha Psi Omega, a national honorary dramatic fraternity, and appeared as an extra in the recently released motion pic ture "Final Exam." Sound Technician Named Suzanne Savage Newman, a 1981 graduate of Appa lachian State University with a degree in communications media and broadcasting, has been named sound techni cian for the 1981 production of THE LIBERTY CART. Nestled in a natural setting of holly and pine, THE LIBERTY CART plays in the William Rand Kenan Jr. Memorial Amphitheatre, one of the finest outdoor theatre facilities in the nation. Suzanne's job as sound technician will involve producing and running the sound tape for THE LIBERTY CART and the Second Stage productions, along with making an nouncements prior to the performance. She h*d-?4f ex perience as a radio traffic director, production director, news/sportscasting and re porting, and has worked as a ^ disc iockey for WA^ Suzanne DU also worked light, *ound and set con struction for Appalachian State University Theatre productions. Her main in terests Ue in the field of television production where she hopes to obtain a job that will eventually lead to pro ducing/directing or broad-^. cast management. Suzanne plans to attend graduate school after the 1981 produc tion season of THE LIBERTY CART ends.
