Beulaville News W.V. Oxley made a busi ness trip to Clinton Wed nesday. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Kennedy were in Greenville during the past week for her medical appointment. Mr. and Mrs. Ura Sholar of Chinquapin visited Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Lanier Thursday. Ricky and Patti Powers, students in Greensboro, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Powers. Kenneth and Nancy Fou shee and Beth Foushee of Sanford spent the weekend with Rev. and Mrs. Garland Foushee. Mr. and M rs. Herman Gore visited the Merritt family in Wilson Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Cottle of Raleigh spent the weekend with Mrs. Shelton Cottle. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. John Forbes Cottle. Mr. and Mrs. William Gerald Jones returned to their home in Wilmington. Delaware, after several weeks' stay here. Mr. and Mrs. W.V. Oxley made a business trip to Goldsboro Thursday. Ermie Sanderson and Marline Hall made a busi ness trip to Kinston Monday. Virginia Campbell's daughter and granddaughter spent the weekend with her. Mrs. Foushee of Kinston visited the Foushees and their children Sunday. Most of the senior class of East Duplin High School drove to Jacksonville Friday to see the movie "Macbeth." They had lunch at the shopping center, and made the trip by bus. W.V. Oxley and Susan drove to Pink Hill Saturday afternoon on business. Rossie Grady's son and family of Fayetteville visited his mother and Colon Thomas during the weekend. lona Collier of Trenton spent the weekend here with Mrs. Sadie Thigpen and Nernie Kennedy. Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Ray Bostic and family left Friday to visit thier son Dino in Norfolk. Va. Dino is in the N^vy, and will come here to spent time with his parents on his way to Denver, where he will be reporting for duty. Wedding Shower On February 19th. several friends of the McClain family assisted with a miscellaneous wedding shower honoring Dana McClain Smith and Ricky Smith in the fellowship hall of the Baptist Church. The hall was decorated in yellow, white, red and green. Six tables were arranged in the south end of the hall and were covered with green tablecloths, draped with yellow bows, and used for gift table. The refreshment tables were arranged at the north end of the hall. It was covered with a green table cloth. also draped at each corner with a yellow bow of ribbon. An arrangement of white and yellow daffodils, red camclias and greenery centered the table. At either side were silver plated candlesticks with hurricane globes and white burning tapers. The refreshments included cake squares, miniature cups filled with chicken salad, miniature sausage balls, roasted pecans, cheese squares and lime punch. Mrs. Jerry Thigpen served the cake and Mrs. Jimmy Lanier poured punch. Guests were wel comed by Dee-Dec McClain. sister of Mrs. Smith, a directed to the register. Approximately 175 friends and relatives called during the evening wishing the couple well. JSTC Offers Short Course In NC History i If you fancy yourself a "history buff" or if you have a particular interest in the history of our state, you won't want to miss enrolling in "North Carolina: Change and Continuity." the fourth of James Sprunt Technical College's series of special interest courses in the humanities. One hundred and fifty years of North Carolina's history ? from the ante bellum period to present times ? make up the course's content. Focusing mainly on what historians call "social history." the course will examine such topics as the lives of the big planters, the small farmers, and the slaves, looking parti cularly at the religious life, social life and political be havior of these groups. Other areas of discussion will include sharecropping and tenant farming, the changing character of race relations after the Civil War. the "great migration." and society and political life in contemporary North Carolina. "North Carolina: Change and Continuity" will meet from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday evenings. March 2 to April b in Room 212 of the Hofller Building on the JSTC campus in Kenansville. The instructor will be John J. Beck, history and political science instructor at the college. There is a registration fee of $8 for the course, payable at the first class meeting. The fee is waived for persons over 65. and for teachers approved to take the course for renewal credit.
