Four County EMC Names 1982 Youth Tour Winners m ? Four high school juniors hav{ been selected for the I98J Rural Electric Youth Tour to Washington. D.C., according to L.P. Beverage, genjcral manager of Four County^ Electric Membership Corporation (EMC). The winners of the week long expense-paid tour are: Mary Randle Buie of Bla ^nboro; K.imona Ann Powers of Wallace; Sunday Rac Mclntyre of Ivanhoe; and George Lee Martin of Clinton. Miss Buie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen A. Buie. is a student at Bla dcuboro High School where she holds memberships in the French Honor Society, Jkicnpe Club, Future Teach of America, Future Busi ness ? Leaders of America, Thetai Nu Gamma and the Fremji Club. She is also co-chief of the varsity cheerleaders and has scrvdd as a Governor's Pagette. Miss Bute is also a photographer on the year book Istaff and is the state secretary of the N.C. Student of Academy of Science. She ^ts also a runner-up in the WisslBladenboro Princess pageant where she was se lected Miss Congeniality." Miss Powers, daughter of M r. I and Mrs. Gerald Powtjrs, is a student at Wallace-Rose Hill High School where she is presi dent of the Spanish Club as well as the Spanish National Honor Society. She has served on the student council for three years and is a varsity cheerleader. In addi tion. Miss Powers has also been selected to Who's Who Among American High School Students and is a member of the National Honor Society. Miss Mclntyre, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Lee Mclntyre. is a student at Pender High School where she holds memberships in the Spanish Club, AFS Club, Science Club. Beta Club and Drama Club. She was re cently elected N.C. State Beta Club president for the coming year, and is the cur rent winner of the Carolina Dramatic Association solo acting award in North Caro lina. Miss Mclntyre has also been selected to attend the Gifted and Talented Science Camp at ECU and is a Governor's School nominee in the area of the arts. Martin, son of Bobby L. Martin, is a student at Union High School where he is a member of the Grench Club. History Club. English Club, yearbook staff, student council and Beta Club. A past president of the FFA, he was also the recipient of the FFA Leadership award. Alternates for this year's Youth Tour are Wanda Green, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James C. Green of Bladenboro; John Shaw, son of Mrs. Evangeline B. Shaw of Beulaville; and Natalie Wells, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Milton R. Wells of Watha. Winners of the tour will travel by chartered bus with approximately 35 other EMC-sponsored tourists from across the state for the week-long trip. Luncheon Honors Lynn Johnson Lynn Johnson, bride-elect of May 28th, was honored at a luncheon at The Country Squire on Thursday, May 13th. Hostesses were co workers of the bride's mother. The honoree was presented with a yellow rose corsage and an oriental bowl. Hamburger was otiginally "Hamburg steak" and took its name from the city of Hamburg, Germany. fj IT'S SUMMERTIME AGAIN! Grady students were excitingly entertained Wednesday afternoon by Morgan horses from the Great Branch Farm from nearby Albertson. John and Cathy Moore presented the Morgan horses in the ballfield to the students and staff of Grady School. Dr. Moore had previously provided the school with a picture slide program on Morgans. The program was climaxed as school principal, Paul Britt, allowed the students an outside venture with the real thing. . .live Morgan horses. Pictured here is Debbie Smith riding Gabriel. HORSE AND BUGGY AT B.F. GRADY SCHOOL - The Morgan horses are not only fine riding animals, but they also readily lend themselves to the harness of a buggy or even a plow. At Wednesday's outing at B.F. Grady School. Randy Allen demonstrates the alertness and beauty of a Morgan and a buggy. The students were allowed to pet the horses after the demonstrations.
