DUFFER Duplin Pro Rick Green reports Magnolia's superstar Billy Potter captured the 18th annual DCC Invitational golf tournament last weekend with rounds of 69-73-142, two under par in the two-day event. Kinston's Joel Harris was two strokes back of Potter in the championship flight with rounds of 74-70 144, hollowed by Clinton's Gary Norris with 74-73, Goldsboro's Haywood Rose, 70-77, and Buster Johnson with 75-73. Goldsboro's John Dees won top honors in the first flight, followed by Ike Rid dick. Lynwood Daughtry, Lloyd Parker and Spiderman Mathis. Edenton's Randy Crabtree took second with Wrightsville Beach's John Mann. Bobby Batts was third and Arthur Benton and Hugh Carlton in fourth and fifth. Third flight honors went to Kinston's Brad Mizzelle with second going to Longmead ow's Clifford Jones, War saw's class Fisher Carlton moved easily into third, fol lowed by Edenton's Jim Lewis and Goldsboro's Ed Ezzell. Jerry Smith, playing out of Magnolia, took top honors inthc fourth while Edenton's Ray Griffen took second. Kenansville or Las Vegas' Mark Vinson took third and Edenton's Carl Forehand and Bob Piner fourth and fifth. I!? r->? 1 nucansii rru Jim nncn reports the team of Carolyn Brooks, Joe Brinson, Steve Edgerton and Paul Livington won the Super Scramble staged at RCC of Wallace. Finch says the tourney started way back six months ago with 18 teams parti cipating. Overall winners were presented awards at a club dinner. Betty Matthews led her team of Don Vest, Willie Futrelle and Bobby Williams to overall second. Brenda Strickland's team of Albert Council, Graham Phillips and Harold Kohne beat out Jean Blanchard's group of Pete McBride. Ray McLemore and Knott Teachey for second flight honors. Finch also announces the Betty Matthews team of Don Vest, Willie Futrelle and Bobby Williams took top honors in the final round last Sunday with a low net 62. Carolyn Brooks' team of Joe Brinson. Steve Edgerton and Paul Livington was second low with a 63. ***** Rockfish's Pro Jim Finch won low pro honors (69) in the Pro Lady held at Jacksonville last week. Finch's team of Gwenn Gideon, Carolyn Brooks and Martha Gurganus took fourth place with a 59. ***** Duplin members and friends are in for a real treat the next time they are in the pro shop. BOSTIC WINS GOLF AWARD Darren Bostic, a St. An drews Presbyterian College student, was named Most Valuable Player in golf at the school's 21st >nnual varsity awards banquet May 3. Baker Competes In Algebra I Runoff Approximately forty out standing students from the eastern third of North Caro lina travelled to the campus of Beaufort County Com munity College to compete in the District Algebra I Runoff recently.
