Houston-Aldridge United In Marriage A candlelight ceremony was held on Saturday. May 19, at Six o'clock in the evening, uniting in marriage Jerri Ann Aldridge and Laran Mark Houston. The double-ring ceremony was held in the Beulaville Pres byterian Church and was officiated by The Reverend G. Frank Sawyer. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell E. Tucker of Pink Hill and the late Michael D. Aldridge. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Laran Houston of Beulaville. Grandparents of the bride are Mrs. Alma Aldridge of LaGrange. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Williams of Pink Hill, and Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Tucker of Magnolia. Grandparents of the groom are Mrs. Delmar Houston and Mrs. Gordon Kennedy, both of Beulaville. A program of classical and sacred music was rendered by Edgar J. Wells Jr.. or ganist. A solo, "0 Perfect luvc was sung uy nic Reverend David Dickey prior to the processional. For the benediction. "The Wedding Prayer" was sung by Mrs. Karen Albertson as the couple knelt on a satin covered profile prie-dieu. The couple spoke their nuptial vows before the altar setting centered with an oval floor-length fifteen-light brass arched candelabrum holding tall lighted tapers. Flanking this focal point stood two stately arrange ments of summer flowers consisting of snaps, mums, carnations and roses inter spersed with gypsophila. Two spiral brass candela brum and two three-light candelabrums, along with green palms completed the setting. Satin streamers at tached to the three-light candelabrum, marking off the mothers' and family pews, were pulled just prior to the procession and after the mothers were seated. Upon the chiming of the hour, the bride entered to the traditional "Bridal Chorus" by Wagner. Escorted to the altar by her stepfather, the bride wore a formal gown of white silkened organza over peau de soie fashioned with a Queen Anne neckline out lined with scalloped Chantilly lace beaded with pearls. The bodice was over laid with French Chantilly lace with beaded lace at the waistline. An organza Dior bow was featured at the center back. Lace was used in the sheer bishop sleeves which featured scalloped lace at the cuffs. The modified A-line skirt was enhanced by a deep ruffled flounce bordered with lace that ex tended into an attached cathedral train. Six tiers of lace-trimmed flounces ex tended up the back of the skirt to the waistline. The bride carried a petite Vic torian cascade bouquet of pink sensation roses, minia ture pink carnations, daisies and gypsophila. Attending as matron of honor was Mrs. Margaret Williams Barwick of Pink Hill. She wore a formal length gown of pink lusterglo overlaid with pale pink chiffon. Off-shoulder ruffles complimented the neckline and bodice. Ruffles also adorned the hem and gathered into a bustle. She carried a nosegay of pink roses, carnations, daisies and gypsophila tied with pink picot-edge satin ribbon. She wore a wisp of babies' breath entwined in her hair. Bridesmaids were Tiffany Thomas and Belinda Miller, both of Beulaville; Pam Hunter of Beulaville, college roommate of the bride; Eliza beth Murphy of Albertson, cousin of the bride; Debra Outlaw of Albertson; and Dianne Holmes of Greens boro. Their nosegays and hairpieces were identical to those of the matron of honor. Miss Jody Tucker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Tucker of Dudley, was the flowergirl. She wore a formal-length gown identical to the bridesmaids'. She wore a crown of babies' breath and carried a small wicker handbasket filled with mixed summer flowers. The groom, wearing a black tuxedo with a white rose boutonniere, chose his father as best man. Ushers were James Michael Aldridge of Pink Hill, brother of the bride; Ross Houston, of Beulaville, brother of the groom; Jack Conrad of Win ston-Salem, Tom Davis of fcrwin, ana jonn uauon 01 Jacksonville, Fla., former college roommate of the groom; and Brian Smith of Chinquapin. They wore black tuxedos with pink rose boutonnieres. Mrs. Robert Ray Thomas of Beulaville presided at the register in the vestibule of the church. Mrs. Brian Smith of Chinquapin passed out wedding programs. The wedding was directed by Mrs. Richard Williams of Beulaville. Reception Immediately following the Houston-Aldridge ceremony, parents of the bride enter tained the wedding party and guests at a reception in the church education building. Guests were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Dovelle Outlaw of Albertsoit. Miss Kim Smith of Pink Hill presided at the register. At the entrace, a portrait of the bride was displayed. The bride's bou quet was placed by the portrait. Also displayed were childhood pictures of the bride and goom. The reception table was covered with a white lace cloth overlay in a pink liner complimented with a five light silver candelabra centered with an elegant oval arrangement of pastel summer flowers, making for a festive occasion. Fresh flower arrangements and greenery were used on the mantel and throughout the fellowship hall. Upon arrival at the reception, the bride and groom cut the traditional first slice of the five-tiered wedding cake which was decorated with pink rosettes and separated by white posts and topped with summer flowers. The cake was made by Mrs. Wilton Smith and was placed on a round table with a pink chiffon-draped cloth made and de$iened bv Mrs. Woodrow Jackson of Pink Hill. Bouquets of the bridesmaids framed the cake in summer colors. Servino the cake was Mrs. Ellis Tucker, aunt of the bride. At one end of the table, pouring punch from a silver punch bowl, was Mrs. Bennett Kennedy, aunt of the groom. Other tasty delights served were ham biscuits, cheese straws, open-faced sand wiches, Swedish meatballs, nuts, mints and fruits served in watermelon baskets. Guests were entertained with piano music by Mrs. Ben Rogers of Pink Hill. Goodbyes were said to Mr. and Mrs. Victor Tucker of Kenansville. Satin ribbon roses filled with rice were passed out to the guests by Miss Tisha Kennedy of Wil mington. cousin of the groom; Dail Eason of Kenansville, cousin of the bride; and Miss Trina Tripp of Beulaville, cousin of the groom. For traveling, the new Mrs. Houston changed into a white linen suit with match ing accessories. She recently graduated "magna cum laude" from East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science in business ad ministration. The groom is a 1980 graduate of East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science in business adminis tration. He is vice president of Delmar Garment, Inc. of Jacksonville. Following a wedding trip to Hilton Head, S.C., the couple will reside in Beula ville. Courtesies A miscellaneous floating shower was given on April 30th in honor of the couple at Smith's Presbyterian Church. Upon arrival, Jerri was pinned with a pink silk corsage. Hostesses were Mrs. Glenn Smith, Mrs. Wilton Smith, Mrs. Rommie Earl Tyndall, Mrs. Sallie Williams, Mrs. Dennis Smith, Mrs. Ben Rogers and Mrs. Earl Williams. The refreshment table was covered with a white lace cloth overlay on a pink liner complimented with burning tapers and pastel flowers. Refreshments consisting of bridal cake squares, cheese straws, toasted pecans. Chicken salad puffs and punch were served to the approximately 70 guests. Jerri Aldridge, bride-elect, was honored with a lineerie shower on May 7th by Mrs. Margaret W. Barwick and Mrs. Sallie Williams in the home of Mrs. Williams. Upon arrival, the bride-elect was pinned with a daisy corsage. Decorated .?idal cake, cheese straws, nuts, fingers and pepsi were served. A cook-out in honor of Mark and Jerri was held on May 19th at the Beulaville Presbyterian Church and given by the church choir. Grilled barbecued chicken, potato salad, baked beans, slaw and rolls were served. For dessert, homemade ice cream was served. The fel lowship hall was decorated with a country motif using a red and white gingham cloth on the serving table and red and white placemats. Red candles, lanterns and a large basket of fruit and greenery added to the festive occasion. A dinner party was given on May 21st at the Rose Hill Restaurant. Hosting were Mrs. Russell Bostic, Miss Dawn Bostic and Mrs. Emmett Wickline, all of Beulaville. Upon arrival, the bride-elect, mothers and grandmothers were pinned with daisy corsages. The menu consisted of chicken parisene, creamed peas in pastry shells, congealed salad and peach cobbler with ice cream. The bride-elect was presented a cup. saucer and place setting in her chosen pattern. Mesdames Dovelle Out law, Freeman Murphy. Miss Debra Outlaw and Miss Elizabeth Murphy enter tained for Jerri Aldridge, bride-elect, at a luncheon on May 22nd at the home of Mrs. Outlaw. Jerri was pinned with a daisy corsage. Fresh mixed flowers were used throughout the house. Jerri chose this special oc casion to present her atten dants with gifts of apprecia tion. A luau honoring Mark and Jerri was held on May 22nd at the home of Mrs. Zova Muldrow of Beulaville. The hostess was Mrs. Muldrow assisted by her children and friends. Guests were dressed in Hawaiian attire. Upon arrival they were greeted "Aloha" and given ? lei. * Mrs. Delmar Houston, grandmother of the groom, honored Mark and Jerri and their immediate families with j a barbecue dinner with all the trimmings at Sid's Bar becue House on May 25th. Entertainment was provided p by Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Rob- c bins of Bellflower, Calif, p Mrs. Robbins is the niece of Mrs. Houston. Guests were a also entertained by Robert Jones of Beulaville. - An after-rehearsal candle light dinner for the wedding party and guests was held at The Country Squire in the Jesters Court on May 28th. Hosting were Mr. and Mrs. Laran Houston, parents of the groom. Guests enjoyed heavy hors d'oeuvres fol lowed by a steak dinner with tossed salad, stuffed potato, broccoli with hollandaise sauce and honeydew delight served with fruit.
