NC 28349 JUNE 10. 1982 I Big Festival Planned This year's annual July 3rd Pink Hill Liberty Festival promises to be the biggest f d best yet according to stival chairman Harold Stroud. Activities planned for the day include sky divers, radio controlled planes, a helicopter on dis play, the Liberty Run, Big Wheel Grand Prix, face painting, a standing parade, tennis tournament, Softball tournament, horseshoe tour nament, aerobic dancers, . craft display and sale, art (tttow, children's games, checker tournament, pet pa rade, tobacco spitting and snuff spitting contest, and more. A street dance and fire works will conclude the festi vities on Saturday night. LIBERTY FESTIVAL ART EXHIBIT I On July 3, 1982 there will be a booth set up for an art exhibit. If you do any type of art and would like to display it during the Pink Hill Liberty Festival, please call 568-3943, by June 26th or you may write to: Angeli Jarman, P.O. Box 493, Pink Hill. N.C. 28572. These are the guidelines that have been set for the Art Exhibit: 1. You must notify Angeli Jarman by June 26th if you would like to bring your art work for others to enjoy during the Pink Hill Liberty Festival. 2. You must bring your art to Turner Bldg., on Broad way Street. If you do draw, paint, etc., please bring it to display. If you do not, please come by to see the beautiful work others have done. We will be lo cated at the Turner Bldg. on Broadway Street. SELL YOUR CRAFTS Persons wishing to display and sell their craft items at the upcoming 1982 Liberty Festival should contact Lynda Stroud at 568-4528 immediately. Tuesday, June 15 is the deadline. This year no one will be accepted alter that date! By complying with this standard, all craftsmen will be issued a number and will set up on the allotted space with his number. No extra spaces will be pro vided. (A $5 registration fee is required). PET PARADE The Pink Hill Liberty Fes tival will feature a pet pa rade. Any child who wishes to enter their pet may contact Denis Moultrie at 568-3656 or Wanda Tyndall at 568 3829 after 4 p.m. MISS LIBERTY PAGEANT - Yvonne Deatherage, "Miss Liberty" pageant coordinator and director with Little Miss Liberty; Mary Beth Watson and Little Master Liberty David Grady. Everyone is reminded of the upcoming 1982 pageant on Friday night June 25th at 8 p.m. when the new Miss Liberty 1982 will be crowned. The event will again take place at the Pink Hill School Auditorium with a host of entertainment in addition to the contestants' participation. Contestants will be canvasing the Pink Hill area this Saturday afternoon selling advanced tickets for the pageant. SOUTH LENOIR ART EXHIBIT - All Soath Lenoir Art students recently participated in an art exhibit. A reception was held for parents and special dignitaries of the county. Jeff Hussey and Kathy Nunnaly recently attended the state art show, the 1982 National Scholastic Art awards held at ACC in Wilson. Jeff won two gold key awards and Kathv won two honorable mention awards. Jeff's plans for the summer are to attend the Governor's School of the Arts in Winston Salem. Miram Bunn is an Art II student. North Carolina Reception church fellowship hall Wn ^liberty Run To Kick Off Festival The Liberty Run, which will kick off the 1981 Liberty Festival, may well be the biggest road race yet for this area. The beautiful ten kilometer course which starts on East Broadway and ends at the same point has been Pleasured and certified by The North Carolina Associa tion of the Athletics Con gress of the U.S.A. and application has been made to this organization for sanc tioning of the event. It is felt that this will add'stature to and interest and participa tion in this race. In addition to the ten kilometer race, there will be a one-mile "fun run" starting out on the course and finishing on East Broad way Street in Pink Hill. The ' A age groupings for the 10-k event are 13-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49 and 50 and up, male and female. For the Fun Run, the age groupings and 12 and under, 13-29, 30 and above, male and female. Trophies are to be given in all classes. Attractive T-shirts will be given to all entrants ex 's, cepting Fun Run. Entrants . V u nave an option on receiving the shirt or not. Pre-regis tration guarantees having a shirt delivered on the day of the race. Entry blanks may be se cured at local sporting goods stores or by writing to Pink Hill Liberty Run. P.O. Box 98, Pink Hill. N.C. 28572. This would be a wonderful way to start a Fourth of July weekend. May 21st was ladies night at the Albertson Community Building, a pig picking was enjoyed by all. Sergeant of Arms. Violet K. Smith was pre sented with an American Legion Auxiliary Cape for all her good work she has ac complished for the unit and for the past three years as unit president. Clyde Potter, past secretary/treasurer, was not present to accept her gift and will receive it at the next meeting for all her many years as a devoted secretary/treasurer.
