Championship Redeo Coming To South Lenoir A championship rodeo is coming to Lenoir County Fairgrounds. The Ail-Around Rodeo Company, in coopera- - tion with the Southern Rodeo Association, will present championship rodeo on July 23 and 24. See top cowboys and cow girls competing for cham pionship points and prize money in six sanctioned events ? bareback bronc, calf roping, steer wrestling and bull riding for the cow boys. and barrel racing and goat tying for the cowgirls. The performance will be held at the Lenoir County Fairgrounds on July 23 and 24 with shows at 8 p.m. The event is sponsored by the South Lenoir FFA. Tickets may be purchased from any South Lenoir FFA member or at Howard's Food Center in Deep Run. Wreath Bought In Error * A tan calico country ruffled wreath was sold in error at the art display exhibited in conjunction with Liberty Festival festivities at the T.A. NATIONAL FFA WASHINGTON CON FERENCE - Marietta Howard and Kevin Watkins of Deep Run are greeted in Washington. D.C. by Jack Stewart of Douglas. Wyoming, western region vice president of the Future Farmers of America. Marietta and Kevin are attending the week-long National FFA Washington Con ference program. Religious Musical 'Godspell' To Open In Kenansville The Duplin Outdoor Drama Society's production of the musical GODSPELL will open on Wednesday, I July 21 at 8:15 p.m. in the William R. Kenan Jr. Me morial Amphitheatre in Kenansville. The popular musical features ten mem bers of the professional cast of THE LIBERTY CART, who w ill perform GODSPELL on five consecutive Wed nesday evenings through August 18th. GODSPELL is a musical production . based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew, and has proven to be one of the most widely accepted religious musicals ever written. The lively show has gained wide acceptance both by the general public and by clergy of all de nominations. SL FFA Members Attend National Conference Kevin Watkins and Mariett.. Howard of the South Lenoir Future Farmers of America chapter are at tending the FFA Washington Conference Program at our nation's capital. The week-long program helps FFA members improve leadership skills, develop an 'understanding of the na tional heritage and prepare for more effective leadership roles in their chapters and communities. Sessions on social and human relations, group leadership and per sonal communication de velop these skills. Personal outlook, motivation and pride are also discussed. Visits to Mount Vernon, the Smithsonian Institution, Arlington National Ceme tery, the Jefferson Memorial and other historic sights in ft,'" iUMriBflK m.. Washington are included in the conference. A highlight of the week was a visit to the office of Congressman Sen. Jesse Helms of North Carolina. The FFA members also had a Capitol Hill luncheon fea turing a question and answer session with Congressmen and Washington business and industry leaders.
