SCHOOL BUSES BEING READIED ? School bus mechanics Earl Jones and Alvin Dunn are making ready Duplin's school buses for the 1982-83 school year. The buses traveled 1,236,187 miles last year. There are 138 ^ises traveling daily routes, burning about "500 gallons of gasoline a day transporting 6,800 Duplin Students. Eleven new buses will replace some 1969 and '70 models. Bus drivers are paid S3.68 an hour. Oh yes, the first day of school is August 25. Orientation day is Aug. 23, and the last day, June 3, 1983... ? LAURA E.P. Check the Seal If you can fruits and vege tables at home, you probably think most of the work is done after you put the food in the jars and finish the pro cessing. But there is one more thing you need to do the day after canning. You should check the seals on your jars. If you canned with the two-piece metal lid, the flat metal lid should be de pressed or concaved and should not move when pressed.
