watched Golliwhoppers! No,
it is mot a golliwhopping tale
? it is a musical play
presented by the cast of THE
LIBERTY CART for children.
"The idea for "GolliwhoD
pcrs' came when David
Ajfhomas, artistic director
and choreographer of THE
LIBERTY CART and GOD
SPELL) suggested we do
something for children,"
said Kerry Maher, director of
GOLLIWHOPPERS. Maher
had directed a similar
production of GOLLIWHOP
PERS while working at
Rockingham Communitv
College as a visiting artist.
"We (RCC) presented a pro
Auction of GOLLIWHOP
PERS and took it around to
some of the public school
classes in Rockingham
County."
Golliwhoppers are tall
tales which we all have been
guilty of telling at some time
in our lives. And, the GOLLI
WHOPPERS production
includes just that ? four
very tall tales! Many people
remember some golli
whoppers told to them by
their grandparents who
probably learned those tales
as children before everv
home became equipped with
a television and radio.
COLLI WHOPPERS as pre
sented by THE LIBERTY
CART cast draws from a
variety of tall tales and
includes a pioneer tale, In
?lian legend, a swamp fable
kid a mountain ballad. The
original GOLLIWHOPPERS
is a play for children written
by Flora Atkin. The entire
play was written to expose
children to the art of story
telling and acquaint them
with some of America's
famous folklore.
"We opened last Sunday
(August 1) to about 120
?eoplc," Maher said.
There have been three pro
ductions of GOLLIWHOP
PERS planned; this Sunday
is the second performance."

sented each Sunday at 3 p.m.
on the grounds surrounding
the Kenansville spring

VICTORIOUS - The Kenansville All-Stars
gave a big cheer for themselves following
the championship game of the Dixie Youth
Baseball Tournament Thursday night.
Although they were eliminated in the second
round of play, watching the EUzabethtown
team take the big trophy, they were proud of
the award they received. The Danny Jones
Sportsmanship Award. The All-Stars appear
with their coaches Conrad Jenkins. Mike
Outlaw and Herman Jones.

morning devotional services

The Duplin County Public
School system has completed
4ke update of "year three" of
^s three-year federal project
to benefit handicapped chil
dren. Funds will be used to
directly serve approximately
200 handicapped school-age
children plus provide indirect
services to all of the nearly
1.300 handicapped children.
