Junior Miss Liberty
The date is fast approach
ing for the first Junior Miss
Liberty pageant to be held
0Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Pink
Hill School auditorium. The
emcee, judges and special
entertainment have been se
cured. It sounds as through
the trip into the fantasy
World of Disney is going to
be a spectacular evening.
The 10 contestants are very
talented and pretty young
ladies. It will be a Thanks
giving treat you will not want
^ to miss.

Megan Lee Hill
Megan Hill, 13, is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
0 Dcmpsey Hill of Deep Run.
She has brown hair, brown
eyes and stands 5'1". She
attends Arendell Parrott
Academy. Megan sings in
the school chorus, in the
church choir at the Deep Run
First Baptist Church and is in
4-H. Her hobbies include
reading, singing, watching
television ar.d dancing. She
has had special training in
? piano and dance.

Daniel York Pharr has
joined the faculty of Virginia
Military Institute where he is
an assistant professor in
analytical chemistry.
Pharr is the son of Mr. and
&Mrs. A.L. Pharr of Raleigh.

Beth Maxwell, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. J. Kenneth
Maxwell of Pink Hill.
He was graduated from
UNC-CIKB.A.). Wake Forest
(M.A.) and the University of
Massachusetts at Amherst
(Ph.D.) The Pharrs are re

Christian Chapel Church

9 bazaar on Nov. 20 beginning
at 10 a.m. An auction will
begin at 7 p.m. All kinds of
crafts and food will be for
sale. Dinner will be served
beginning at 11 a.m. and
supper beginning at 5 p.m.

on the basketball team and is
the 8th grade representative
for the student government.
She sings in her church choir
and is in 4-H. Her hobbies

Elizabeth Murphy, 14. is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

she is a member of FBLA.
Her hobbies are dancing and
playing the piano. She has
bad special training in dance
and piano.

Donald R. King Jr. of Pink
Hill was honored Saturdav.
Nov. 6 al the Pink Hill
Presbyterian Church with a
reception following the cere
mony that bestowed upon
him Scouting's highest
award, the Eagle Scout.
The Rev. Randolph Terrell
welcomed the guests and in
troduced the chairman of the
Court of Honor. Dr. Wcs
Perry. Eagle escorts were
Tim Ledford and Wesley
Yates. Luther Ledford. Tom
Yates and Robert Holt served
as board members.
After the presentation of
the colors, the- pledge of
?
allegiance was rendered by
Johnny Hill.
A narration. Lighting the
Eagle Trail, was delivered by
the board members as Billy
King lighted each candle
representing the climb to
Eagle Scout.
Presentations by Kinston
Elk Lodge and the Ely Perry
Memorial were mtTde by Dr.
Wes Perry and Ethro Hill
made the presentation for
the Pink Hill Ruritan Club.
Tom Yates did a beautiful
recitation of "The Eagle
Scout" followed by the
benediction by Rev. Terrell.
Donald has been active in
Scouting for nine years.
While in Cubs, he earned
that program's highest rank
? the Webelos Arrow of
Light award. As a Boy Scout
he has served as assistant
patrol leader, patrol leader
and currently is senior patrol
leader of Troop 244. He also
has earned the BSA Mile
Swim award for three con
secutive years. Last year he
attended the National Jam
boree at H.A.P Hill. Vir
ginia. He is also a member of
the Neusioh Chapter of the
Order of the Arrow.
For his Eagle service
project. Donald coordinated
a dance at South Lenoir High
School with all proceeds
going to the Heart Fund. His
Scoutmaster is Luther Led
ford. Only 2.5 percent of all
Boy Scouts earn the Eagle
rank.
Donald is the son of CWO
and Mrs. Donald R. King of
112 Park Circle. Pink Hill.
EASTERN COUNTY VOLUNTEERS
HONORED BY GOV. AND MRS. HUNT -
Volunteers from 28 eastern North Carolina
counties were honored by Gov. and Mrs.
James B. Hunt Jr. on Oct. 26 in a ceremony
at the Martin County Auditorium on the
Williamston High School campus. The fol
lowing volunteers received awards in five
