Sell The Most Barbecui Dinner Tickets Kenansville Elementary School Fun Fund Festival was held May 11 with a barbecue dinner sponsored by the PTO. Prizes were awarded to Jeffery Jones, Melissa .Rouse, Dawn Guy, Jennifer Stroud and Kathy Bowden, pictured left to right above, for being the top ticket sellers. Also among the top salespeople but not pictured above was Perry Stroud. Prizes were awarded kindergarten through third grade and fourth through sixth grade. Dawn Guy and Melissa Rouse were the top salespeople in the two divisions. Transportation Priorities To Be Discussed In Meeting Set For Kenansville The third in a series of public meetings designed to help the state Transportation Board update the department's 1984-1993 Transpori tation Improvement Program (TIP) will be held in Kenansville May 17. The document represents a long range blueprint for highway im provement projects statewide and also includes planned improvements for aviation, public transportation, rail and bicycles. It was last updated in November 1983. The meetings, one planned for each of the state's 14 highway divisions, will bring citizens up-to date on area projects and provide a summary of project revenues and construction costs, according to state Transportation Secretary W.R. Roberson Jr. Board member Louis W.Sewell of Jacksonville will represent the board at the meeting. The meeting starts at 2 p.m. in the auditorium of James Sprunt Technical College. Sewell represents the counties comprising the third highway division which includes Brunswick, Duplin, New Hanover, Onslow, Pender and Sampson counties. Farm Disaster Emergency Loans Authorized In Duplin County J.M. Mills Jr., county supervisor in Duplin County, announces that John R. Block, Secretary of Agri culture, designated Duplin County as eligible for Farmers Home Ad ministration (FmHA) Emergency loans because of losses caused by severe storms and tornadoes oc curring on March 28, 1984. Loans must be based on physical losses resulting fromt he disaster. Applications for loans based on this disaster must be received by Oct. 3, 1984. Individuals interested in applying for assistance may contact the county supervisor in Kenansville. The office is open on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or appointments may be made by calling 296-0827. The Duplin County FmHA office is located in the Agriculture Building in Kenansville. Loan services of the FmHA, like all programs and services of the USDA, are available to everyone without regard to race, sex, religion, marital status or handicapped con ditions. 1984 Duplin Fair Booths Available ? Letters have been mailed to last year's commercial exhibitors in the Duplin County Fair to reserve booths for 1984. The bus will leave the Sandy Plain Church at 7 a.m. Take a picnic lunch for the noon meal. The bus will stop along the way for those who have not had breakfast. A reservation fee. will have to be paid of S3 to enter the scheduled tour. Gresham Family Reunion The annual Gresham Family Re union will be held on Sunday, May 20th at the home of I.J. and Hazel Hines. All descendants of the Gresham family and friends and relatives are urged to attend. Bring a picnic lunch and tea. Rashie Kennedy visited Nora Miller in Duplin General Hospital Monday and his wife in Whaley's Rest Home. Sybil Lanier of Wrightsville Beach spent a couple of days here with her children and mother. Mrs. Raymond Basden is spend ing several weeks with her daughter and family in Baker, Fla. Joanne Smith of Kinston spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Amon Kennedy. Country Ham Breakfast The Cedar Fork Senior Citizens are sponsoring a Country Ham Breakfast at the Cedar Fork Com munity Building Saturday, May 19. Breakfast will be served beginning at 7 a.m. and last until. Plates are $2. Come join and support the group and enjoy a good country ham breakfast with all the trimmings. Social Services Closed The Duplin County Department of Social Services will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday, May 1.6 and 17 for moving purposes. In case of emergencies, a worker can be reached at 296-0261. The child support staff and the social work staff will be relocated in the Quinn Annex, formerly occupied by the Western Auto Store on Highway 111 north, just past the Tastee Freez. Parking will be provided in the parking lot directly across the street in front of the building. It is the endeavor of the agency and county to be able to serve citizens better through this exparn sion and they hope that closing the office for two days will not work an undue hardship on anyone. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Lanier shopped in Jacksonville Saturday.
