Incumbents Win ? Commissioners Race Two long-time Duplin County commissioners won re-election to their seats in the Democratic primary election last week, according to unofficial returns. Their primary vic tory was tatamount to re-election because no Republican filed for the two seats. In District 1. W.J. Costin, 58, narrowly defeated J. Frank Steed, 53, by a 33-vote margin. The un official tally was 890 for Costin to 857 fbr Steed. Both are Warsaw area residents. Costin led in the FaiSon precinct with 238 votes to Steed's 166. Steed led in the Whrsaw precinct by a vote of 691 to 652. D.J. Fussell of Rose Hill retained his District 5 seat by an unofficial tally of 1,113 to 889 for George N. Amnions of Kenansville, who was making his first run for countywide office. Fussell has served on the board l&years. Fussell won 497 votes in Kenans ville, 431 in Rose Hill and 185 in the Amnions precinct. Ammons received 445 votes in Kenansville, 189 in Magnolia and 255 in Rose Hill. ? ? ? ? retained his District 1 seat against a strong challenge from another school board member, Riddick E. Wilkins, also of Warsaw. The two board members were pitted against each other in District 1 because beginning this year, school board members are being elected by districts. Previously, the board was elected at-large. The unofficial District 5 total was 1,009 for Brinson and 943 for Ms. Sanders. By precincts the vote was: Brinson, 151 and Sanders 214 in Magnolia; Brinson, 325 and Sanders, 333 in Rose Hill; and Brinson, 533 and Sanders, 396 in Kenansville. The unofficial District 1 total was 956 for Strickland and 733 (or Wilkins. The Warsaw precinct gave Strickland 695 and Wilkins 609 votes and the Faison precinct, Strickland 261 and Wilkins, 124. Film Shows Duplin General i The Duplin General Hospital Foundation has prepared a 20 minute film presentation of hospital procedures and history. The foundation, chartered in August, obtains contributions and grants for distribution to the hospital. Its charter members are Arliss Albertson of Beulaville; Amos Rrinson and Violette Phillips of Kenansville; William Hennessee of Faison; Charles Ingram and Gerald Quinn of Warsaw; Hazel Kornegay and Alice Scott of Albertson; G.F. Landen of Chinquapin; Betty F. Lanier of Rose Hill; Marjorie Over man, William S. Buckley and Robert Smith of Wallace. The 101-bed hospital has 16 physicians on its staff and 10 consulting physicians. Brinson, Strickland Win Seats Board Of Education One newcomer and one veteran won the two seats open on the Duplin County Board of Education accord ing to unofficial returns from the Democratic primary election last week. With no Republicans filing for the posts, the primary victory was tatamount to election. The unofficial totals showed Amos Q. "Doc" Brinson of Kenansville narrowly defeating Lillie Sanders of Magnolia for the new District 5 seat. James F.
