Hardy-Powell Exchange Vows _ _ . J Gina Alice Powell of Route I, Kenansville, and Baxter Caldwell "Chip" Hardy Jr. of Route 2, La Grange, exchanged their wedding vows on Saturday. June 2, 1984, at five o'clock in the afternoon in Pearsall Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Kenansville. The Rev. David C. Hansley, friend of the couple, officiated. Gina is the daughter of Mr. and .Mrs. Carl W. Powell of Route 1, Kenansville. and Chip is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Baxter C. Hardy Sri of Route 2, La Grange. The couple spoke their nuptial vows before the church altar. A fifteen-lite arched candelabra flanked with two nine-lite candel abrum with tall burning tapers and baskets ot green flowing palms decorated the altar which was' centered with a white satin-covered ? prie-dieu on which Mr. and Mrs. Hardy knelt as "The Wedding " Prayer" was sung. A program of organ music was presented by Johnny Sullivan of Wilson. Soloist, Marian E. Kennedy of La Grange, former roomate of the bride, sang "Annie's Song," "The Wedding Song" and "The Wedding Prayer." " r? Escorted to the altar by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a designer gown by Joytime of candlelight silesta chiffon. The Victorian gown was fashioned with a high pleated neckline, a yoke and capelet of embroidered English net edged with Schiffli lace, and long fitted sleeves with bell cuffs of lace. A flounce of scalloped lace enhanced the gown's A-line skirt which fell gracefully from the empire waistline into a chapel train. To compliment her gown, the bride chose an ivory derby hat adorned with lace and bridal seed pearls. The hat was enhanced with a face veil of French issusion and adorned with a pouf bow of nylon silk illusion in back. The bridal bouquet was a silk cascade of summer flowers in mixed pastel colors. The attendants wore suede rose gowns of chiffon over taffeta featur ing a flounce-trimmed bodice with a scooped back neckline and a flared skirt adorned with a spaghetti tie belt. Each attendant carried a silk Victorian nosegay of summer flowers like those in the bride's bouquet. The matron of honor was Mrs. Karen P. Nery of Apex, sister of the bride. The bridesmaids were Miss Melony A. Rouse of Route 3, La Grange, cousin of the bride; Miss Lisa J. Jones, Route 1, Farmville, college roommate of the bride; Miss Cynthia L. Hansley of Wilmington, Miss Sharon L. Stocks of Route 1, Hooker ton, and Miss Donna K. Mason, of Route 1, Fremont, all college suitemates of the bride. Flowergir! was little Miss Carrie Brooks, cousin of the groom. Her dress was off-white crepe compli mented with a sash of suede rose silk. She carried an ivory straw basket with assorted colorful flowers. Ringbearer was Master Carl Arthur Nery, nephew of the bride. He carried a pillow designed and cross-stitched b|y the bride. The groom's father served as best man, and Master Scott S. Hardy attended his brother as junior usher. Ushers were Hal Oliver and Greg Oliver, both of Route 1, La Grange, Bob Eason and Jeff Mewborn, both of Route 2, LaGrange; and Robbie Strickland of Goldsboro, cousin of the groom. The bride is a graduate of Mount Olive College and is attending Atlantic Christian College. The groom is a graduate of Mount Olive College and attended Atlantic Chris tian College. He is employed at Eastern Correction Center in Maury. After a wedding trip to the North Carolina mountains, the couple will reside at Route 2, La Grange. The wedding was directed by ivu *. I Reception The parents of the bride, assisted by family and friends, entertai~-d at a reception in the fellowship hall of the church immediately following the ceremony. Rehearsal Dinner Members of the wedding party and invited guests were entertained by the parents of the groom in ilie fellowship hall of the church on June 1, immediately after the rehearsal. The dinner was catered by Kings of Kinston. Other Courtesies On April 14, Mr. and Mrs. John Mewborn entertained the bridal couple-elect with a dinner at their home in La Grange. On April 18. the bride-elect was honored at a lingerie shower by her roommate and suitemates in the formal dining room in the cafeteria of Hamlin Student Center at Atlantic Christian College in Wilson. On April 29, friends of the groom honored the couple at a miscel laneous shower at the Jason Pres byterian Church. On May 5, the couple was honored at a miscellaneous shower at the Farm Bureau Building in Kenans ville. Hostesses wert Mrs. Robert L. Worthington, Mrs. J.B. Rouse and Mrs. Robert A. Nery. On May 6, family and friends of the bride-elect entertained the i uple with a miscellaneous shower in the fellowship hall of Pearsall Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Route 1, Kenansville. On May 19. Donna Mason, Lisa Jones and Sharon Stocks entertained the bride-elect at a bridesmaid luncheon in the home of Mrs. William E. Stocks Sr. at Route 1, Hookerton. The bride-elect chose this time to present gifts to her attendants. Aglow The Aglow fellowship, Kenans ville chapter, will hold their monthly meeting June 9 beginning at 8:45 a.m. for fellowship, and 9:30 a.m. for the meeting at Brown's Restaurant in Kenansville.
