Warsaw Rec News By George Lloyd Junior High Dance ? We had such a great response to our last dance for ^iior high-aged students that we'd like to have another one. The date for the ?xt dance for students in grades 7-10 is Oct. 6. It will be held from 8-11 p.m. t Thompson Gym. Admission is SI.SO and a good night of entertainment is romised to all. Come out prepared to dance the night away. Midge_t Football - last week was the first midget football game back at the ec. Dept. The Packers beat the Redskins and the Vikings overtook the owboys from Faison. The games are held on Wednesday nights at the Rec. >ept. beginning at 6 p.m. Co-Rec Volleyball - Co-rec volleyball season will get underway soon. Slimnastics - A new ladies slimnastics class will begin soon. If you haven't ^tended one of Linda Beck's classes, you have missed a lot of fun, fellowship Cd exercise. Call me to register or to get details of the class being offered. Children's Gymnastics. We will be starting a gymnastics class for the spiring olympians in our area soon. Third row: Ronnie Davis, Robert Hill, Jerry Newkirk, Jimmy Davis and Keith Williams. a East Duplin Teacher Of The Year Mary Anna Grady has been selected as Hast Duplin High School Acacher of the Year for 1984-85. Miss Grady will be representing her school in competition to select the Duplin County Teacher of the Year in October. A native of Albertson, Mary Anna began her teaching career at B.F. Grady School where she taught for 15 years. She transferred to East Duplin High School when it was formed from the consolidation of Beulaville, Chinquapin and Grady high schools and has taught biology and advanced biology there for 22 years. In addition to her teaching duties, Mary Anna serves as chairman of the science department and advisor to the senior class and Future Teachers of America. She also serves on the steering, scholarship and media committees. At the county level she serves on the personnel and calendar committees. Miss Grady is a member of the following professional organizations: life member National Education Association, North Carolina Associa tion of Educators, National Science Teachers Association, N.C. Science Teachers Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an honorary organization for key women teachers. She is presently serving as director of District 13 of the N.C. Science Teachers Asso ciation and is a member of the N.C. Association of Educators advisory board for the Future Teachers of America. Among the many offices she has held in professional organizations are: president of Alpha Eta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International; president of the East ern District Association of Classroom Teachers; and president of the Duplin County unit of the Associa tion of Classroom Teachers. She has also served as vice-president of the Duplin County unit of the N.C. Association of Educators, three terms on the state resolutions com mittee of the ACT, and as a member of the state executive board of the NCACT. Among the special recognitions she has received in the past are: the DSA conferred on her by the NCAE-ACT in 1971 in recognition of a sustaining interests in and con tribution to public education, an honorary certificate of merit in recognition of a significant contri bution to the advisory council Dis trict 13 ACT in 1978; Duplin County Teacher of the year 1971; one of three finalists in the N.C. Out standing Biology Teacher awards program of the NABT in 1969; and represented Duplin County in the Mary Anna Grady N.C. awards program for outstand ing science teachers in 1983. Mary attended Montreat Junior College and East Carolina University where she earned her B.S. and M.A. degrees. In addition she has at tended NSF institutes at Indiana University, N.C. State University, the University of NC at Chapel Hill, Converse College and Randolph Macon Woman's College. She is a past president of the Grady-Outlaw Literary and Historical Association, the Waller Williams reunion, and is a member of the Duplin County Outdoor Drama Society and the Simmons-Turner Mewborn Post of the American Legion Auxiliary. Miss Gradv has been an active member of Pleasant View Presby terian Church for 42 years. During this time she has served her church in many capacities, including adult and primary teacher, Bible school teacher and Elder. She and her mother, Ruth O. Grady, live at Route One, Albertson.
