Carr-Parker Exchange Vows r aritlud Muri#> Parkpr an rl William ... . . ? . Brice Carr Jr. were united in fetarriage at Rockftsh Presbyterian X'hurch, Wallace. Dr. Jesse Parks performed the double-ring ceremony at three o'clock on Saturday after noon, August the 11th, 1984. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Forest Gene Parker of Rose Hill and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lucy B. Parker of Rose Hill. The groom is the son of William Brice Carr of Winston-Salem and ^4rs. Helen Sledge of Asheboro. The grandparents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Gibson S. Carr of Wallace and Mr. and Mrs. P.D. Dixon of Wilmington. A program of wedding music was presented by Mrs. Nancy Brice, organist, Mrs. Carolyn McElveen, pianist, and Miss Melissa Brooks, soloist, who sang "O Promise Me," "The Lord's Prayer," and she also played "Angel Serenade" on the flute. ? The couple spoke their vows eforc an altar setting centered with an arrangement of white snap dragons, white and lavender mums, white roses and greenery. One arch and two spiral candelabras held lighted tapers accented by large palms. Pew markers were greenery with white bows and babies'-breath. Given in marriage by her parents end escorted to the altar by her father, the bride wore a floor length gown of lace and taffeta with chapel-length train. The bodice featured a schiffli embroidered yoke With a stand-up neckline, long leg-o mutton sleeves of schiffli and silk venise lace. She wore a bridal picture hat covered in lace with a puff bow and floor-length veiling adorned with white satin ribbon streamers. The bride carried a cascading bouquet of silk white roses and lily-of-the-valley accented with ivy. Miss Dawn Hanchey of Wallace ? ^erved as maid of honor. She wore a ?mvn of lilac tissue taffeta with a ruffled off-the-shoulder bodice fea turing lilac rosebuds. She carried a basket of mixed summer flowers. The bridesmaids were Suzanne Col well of Wallace. Ramona Toler of Wallace and Lisa Stroud of Kenans ville. They wore gowns identical to thai ot the maid ot honor and carried baskets of mixed summer flowers. Serving as junior bridesmaids were Lisa and Kim Merritt of Sumter, S.C., cousins of the bride, and Angela Carr of Wallace. Thev carried nosegays of summer flowers. Amy Parker, sister of the bride, was the flowergirl. Her gown of lilac and white taffeta featured a bodice of ruffled lace and puffed sleeves and a scalloped hemline. Babies'-breath adorned her hair and she carried a basket of mixed summer flowers. Elwood Garner, cousin of the bride, served as acolyte. Jonathan Fussell, cousin of the groom, served as ring-bearer. He wore a white tuxedo matching those of the ushers. The groom was dressed in a white tuxedo with tails and wore a white rosebud boutonniere accented with babies'-breath. The father of the groom was best man. Ushers were Gene Parker II, brother of the bride, Tim Simpson of Wallace, and Jonathan Barnette of Kenansville. They wore tuxedoes similar to that of the groom. The wedding was directed by Mrs. June Bowen of Rose Hill. Miss Donna English of Wallace presided at the guest register. Following a wedding trip to the mountains of North Carolina, the couple will reside in Winston-Salem. The bride is a 1984 graduate of Wallace-Rose Hill High School. The groom is a 1984 graduate of James Sprunt Technical College and is employed by Carr's Freight Agency of Winston-Salem. Reception Immediately following the cere mony, a reception was given by the bride's family in the fellowship hall of the church. Guests were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. George Garner of Kenansville, aunt and uncle of the bride. After the couple cut the traditional first slice of a four-tiered wedding cake featuring lavender flowers topped with the traditional bride and groom, Mrs. Emily Carr, aunt of the groom, served the wedding cake. Mrs. Peggy Powell of Southern Pines, aunt of the bride, served the punch. Refreshments included fresh fruit compote, mints, cheese stars, sausage balls, roasted pecans and cashew nuts, a vegetable tray and dip, and fresh strawberries and dip. The bride's table featured the bridal bouquet and displayed her wedding portrait. Rice maidens were Heather Powell of Southern Pines, Holly Garner of Warsaw, and Jessica Page of Warsaw, all cousins of the bride. Goodbyes were said by Mr. and Mrs. Roger Parker of Rose Hill and Mr. and Mrs. Durwood Parker, also of Rose Hill, all aunts and uncles of the bride. Rehearsal Dinner Following the wedding rehearsal on Friday, August 10, the family of the groom hosted a dinner for the wedding party, family and friends in the church fellowship hall. Mrs. Bea Hardie of Fort Lauder dale, Fla. is visiting Mr. and Mrs. V.H. Reynolds. Mrs. Louise W. Mitchell along with Mrs. Lela Baldwin of Wallace represented the Battle of Rockfish Chapter DAR at the 9th district workshop in New Bern last Monday. Mesdames Sallie C. Ingram, Fannie B. McGowan and Louise K. Boney attended the meeting of the James Kenan UDC chapter on Wed nesday afternoon in Warsaw at the home ol Mrs. Rachel F. Baars. Mesdames Martha Swann, Carolyn Hall and Louise K. Boney shopped in Wilmington Thursday. Anthony and Dana Hatcher of Greensboro spent last weekend with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hatcher. Mrs. Gladys McDessy of Winston Salem spent several days here last week with Miss Pattie Lofton. Mr. and Mrs. Rowe Green of Wilmington and Mrs. Pat Purvis and three children of Fayetteville were here Sunday for homecoming at Grove Presbyterian Church. The Bill McKays spent the week end with relatives in Lillington. W.E. Craft ans Mark, also Bert Alabaster and Brad went to Raleigh Saturday to the State-Wake Forest game. Mrs. Edward S. Kornegay of Wilmington was the guest of Mrs. N.B. Boney Sunday at Grove Church for the homecoming service. Others from out of town seen at Homecoming Sunday at Grove Church were Sharon Stroud of Raleigh with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Stroud, also Elizabeth Spicer of Raleigh and Julia Spicer of Chapel Hill with their mother, Mae H. Spicer, and Craig Craft of Wilmington with the W.E. Crafts. Hospital Auxiliary Holds Annual Meeting Fall is a busy season of the year. It was quite evident at the meeting of Duplin General Hospital Auxilary members on Wednesday morning of last week. They held their annual recognition day and invitation to new members, and planning for the coming year at their luncheon at the Graham House Inn. Twenty-four members and guests were present. After a very good lunch was enioved. many business items were discussed. The Auxiliary presented to Richard Harrell, administrator, a check for $3,252.93 as half payment on a piece of equipment for the hospital nursery. Mr. Harrell ex pressed thanks to the group for the money. Mr. Harrell introduced Jimmy Peterson, the new pharmacist at the hospital. He also told the group of several items that the hosnital needed if the Auxiliary is interested / in other purchases. The Auxiliary plans to have a card C. and games party on Friday night, ft Oct. 12 at James Sprunt Technical \J College at 7:30. Any type of cards \> or games may be played. Invite | people to come with you and make up you' own table. Tickets are $3 per person. Plenty of goodies will be served and prizes awarded. Bridesmaid Luncheon The home of the bride was the setting of the bridesmaid luncheon on July 9. Miss Parker chose this time to present gifts to her atten dants. Showers and Other Courtesies A miscellaneous shower was held at the home of Dawn Hanchey of Wallace on June 20. Hostesses were Dawn and Joy Gurganius. A miscellaneous shower honoring the couple was held at the home of Mrs. Roger Parker of Rose Hill. Hostesses were Joan Parker of Rose Hill, Louise Farrior of Wallace, Ernie Hoffman of New York and Ruth Parker of New York, all aunts of the bride. Ramona Toler and Donna English honored the bride with a lingerie shower July 24 at the Toler home. A luncheon honoring the bride was held at the Graham House Inn in Kenansville. Hostesses were Mrs. Mary Page of Warsaw, Mrs. Dorothy Lane of Warsaw, and Mrs. Diane Garner of Warsaw and Mrs. Betty Sutton of Faison, and Peggy Powell of Southern Pines, all aunts of the bride. The hostesses presented a flower arrangement in a grapevine basket to the bride-to-be. On July 28. the bride and groom were honored with an ice cream party at Rockfish Presbyterian Church. Hostesses were Mr. and Mrs. Billy Wells, Mr. and Mrs. I - o ? Bobby Salmon, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Futrell, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Forlaw, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Carter. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Colwell and Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Wells. They presented the couple with an ice cream freezer. The home of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Garner of Kenansville was the setting for a lawn dinner honoring the couple August 4. Forty guests were present.
