Speak In
Kinston
Martin, a candidate for state
governor, will be speaking in Kin
ston on Oct. 29 at Bill's Flea Market
on U.S. 70 West.
Speaking in Asheville to a group of
supporters, gubernatorial candidate
Jim Martin said that, "as a chemist,
I understand the need for environ
mental balance and have used that
expertise since first taking public
office."
"When I was county commis
sioner I established the first program
to enforce the state's environmental
laws in Mecklenburg County. As a
Congressman I was floor leader for
the superfund legislation and the
fight to save the New River."
COKE PARTY
The Junior Miss Liberty contes
tants attended a coke party Sunday
afternoon in the home of Harold and
Violet Stroud of Pink Hill. The party
was an informal get-acquainted
party for the seven contestants. They
were given the details of the up
coming pageant.
REVIVAL
The Fist Baptist Church 01 Pink
Hill will be holding fall revival Oct.
29 - Nov. 2. Rev. Bailey Elmore of
Calvary Baptist Church in Kinton
will be the guest pastor delivering
the message each night. Area church
choirs will provide special music
nightly. The public is invited to
attend.
HERMAN ATKINSON REUNION
The Herman Atkinson reunion is
this Sunday, October 20 with dinner
being served at 12:00 noon.
Everyone is invited to bring a picnic
dinner and enjoy the fellowship at
the Atkinson home, V* mile off
Highway 24 on Road 1701, between
Kenansville and Beulaville. Country
Music will be furnished.
BLOODM< BILE AT LCC
The Red Cross Bloodmobile will
pay its annual visit to Lenoir Com
munity College Oct. 24 from 9 a.m.
until 3 p.m. in the College Union.
The visit is sponsored by the
college Student Government
Association. A goal of 150 pints has
been set for this year, according to
SGA President Lee Tyndall.

SOUTH LENOIR BAND BOOSTERS
CLUB
The Bandbooster Club and the
students of South Lenoir High School
will be accepting donations for a
drawing to give away hams and
turkeys. The drawings will be held at
LSH Nov. 16.
CHRISTMAS WORKSHOP
This, that and the Other in Pink
Hill will have a Christmas workshop
Thursday night, Oct. 18. The work
shop is free and will run from 7 until
10 p.m.
Persons are invited to float in
anytime between those hours and
observe persons demonstrating
how to tie a bow, how to punch tin,
work with fresh greenery for live
arrangements, ideas for Christmas
ornaments, and how to make a
cornshuck wreath.
AERO CLUB BREAKFAST
The Pink Hill Aero Club will have
a fly-in breakfast on Sunday. Oct. 28.
On the menu will be eggs, pancakes,
sausage, bacon, grits, coffee, milk
and toast. Breakfast will be offered
for S2.S0 beginning at 6 a.m.
Driv .-ins and walk-ins are welcome.
CRIME OF THE WEEK
Kinston police officers are investi
gating the larcenies of 22 batteries
from vehicles since Sept. 1. Ac
cording to reports, the batteries were
taken during both day and evening
hours. The vehicles were parked in
various locations throughout the city.
Lenoir County Crime Stoppers will
pay for information leading to the
arrest and indictment of the thief or
thieves. The amount depends on the
seriousness of the crime and value of
the information.
