? % NATIONAL SPINNING CO., INC. Y I MANAGEMENT EXECUTIVE OFFICES POST OFFICE BOX 101 . WASHINGTON. NORTH CAROLINA 27000 W I AREA 9104464111 . TWX 510 924-1830 HENRY C HUMPHREYS. JR. PRESIDENT I Dear Citizens and Merchants of Duplin County: On behalf of National Spinning Co., Inc. and its valued employees, I urge you to shop for American-made textiles and apparel this Christmas. Here in Duplin County, more than 2,000 men and women depend upon the textile and apparel industry for their livelihood. (? They are earning good wages and contribute substantially to the economic well-being of the entire area. They pay taxes, use / professional services, and buy from local retailers. But this economic contribution is being threatened. Already in North Carolina 12 plants have closed, 14 have had severe layoffs and more than 5,000 people have lost their jobs. 0 A Cannon Mills Plant in Kannapolis has closed, Tultex in Marion, and Burlington Industries Greige Plant in Franklinton, just to name a few. National reports indicate that textile imports . increased 48% in the first three months of 1984 as compared to the same period in 1983. At the present rate of growth, foreign textiles and apparel could L claim at least 50% of the American market by 1988. More jobs lost, ? more dependence upon foreign countries for basic products that we can manufacture right here at home, given the opportunity. Imports do not keep many people working here, American-made products do. Our employees work hard to keep us at the "leading edge" of the textile industry. But to stay there, we must work together as citizens to stop the problem. We cannot depend on the Federal Government. Already we are looking for the "Made In U. S. A." labels when we shop and urge you to do the same. Ask for American made products. If none are available when you are shopping, do not buy. Go where they are available. We urge all retailers to display those American-made products in advertising and make them visible to the consumer within your stores. It's our intent to continue searching for more reasonable import I controls and to remind our employees, elected officials, community leaders, consumers and retailers that there is a great deal at stake. .* ? ? ?, ??????? . ?. ? There are six good reasons for buying textiles and apparel "Made In U. S. A." II) American-made textiles and apparel are HIGH QUALITY. . L 2) They offer GOOD VALUE AT REASONABLE PRICES. 3) They provide JOBS FOR AMERICANS, some right here. 4) They guarantee our COMMUNITY PROSPERITY. 5) They provide for ECONOMIC GROWTH AT HOME. 6) They are an INVESTMENT IN AMERICA'S FUTURE. Even though the import situation has devastated many textile plants, National Spinning's 2,500 employees have helped boost * National into the lead in textile manufacturing. Efforts to maintain quality standards, investments in modern machinery and Quality Circles have helped National Spinning to maintain a solid foundation of productivity. National's ability to service the demands of the consumer with a high quality product is the direct result of an experienced manage- I ment team and company of valued employees dedicated to keeping : " National Spinning number one. So when you shop this Christmas, shop for AMERICAN-MADE TEXTILE AND APPAREL PRODUCTS. It helps support our textile industry and the number one yarn manufacturer in the world; National Spinning Co., Inc., a Duplin County Industry. Thank you for your continued support and have a merry Christmas. I Sincerely, ? NATIONAL SPINNING CO., INC. I He/ry C. Humphreys, Jr. President A L | I,,, mi?in H"T ??n? _ _... ijiji igT
