offering full-service financial plan
ning and securities transactions
through the formation of a separate
corporation, Carlton, Lee &
Company, Inc. Other incorporators
are Fisher Carlton and Robert A.
Lee.
According to Hugh Carlton, whose
father, the late David Carlton.
started in the insurance business in
^ 1934, "The new corporation adds the
capabilities for my associates and I to
fill a need that has existed in our
service area for many years."
He stated that clients and other
area residents had been forced to go
outside the area to obtain the
brokerage services, tax-advantaeed
investments, and financial planning

Prior to moving to Duplin County in
1969, he was a cost accountant for
Burlington Industries and served as
an administrator at East Carolina
University in Greenville. He joined
Carlton Insurance Agency in April of
1983 after serving 14 years as chief
Financial officer at James Sprunt
Technical College in Kenansville.

Fisher Carlton, secretary/treasur
er of Carlton Insurance Agency,
stated that the new company will be
located in the Carlton Insurance
building at 105 N. Pine St. in
Warsaw. This is the third major
expansion for the company in the
past two years.
Carlton Insurance has a partner
ship interest in Carlton-MacGiil
Agency, a property casualty insur
ance firm in Clinton, as well as
majority ownership in Langley
Carlton Agency, Inc., a property
casualty agency in Mount Olive.
Langley Carlton Agency was the M C
S Cherry Agency before its acquisi
tion by Carlton in April 1984.

Auxiliary Program
With continued concern for public
safety, especially during the holiday
season, the Duplin County Medical
Auxiliary will sponsor a short pro
gram on Tuesday, December 11 at 7
p.m. in the auditorium at the Hoffler
Building at James Sprunt Technical
College.
William Hutchinson of the Caswell
Center, Kinston, will give a talk and
slide presentation about child
passenger safety.
A seven-minute film entitled "Are
you convinced?" will also be shown
as public awareness towards safety
bells.
Hutchinson will discuss the cur
rent North Carolina law on child
passengers. This is up for renewal.
There will be a short question/
answer session following the pre
sentation.
The public is invited to attend. A
short time of listening could save
lives.

Education Service
Jimmy Strickland, known as the
Dean of Board Members of Duplin
County, was recognized for his
boardmanship and service to the
children of Duplin County at the 15th
annual conference of the Ntjrth
Carolina School Boards Association
at its meeting held in Greensboro on
Nov. 8-10. Strickland has served as a
member of the Duplin County Board
of Education for more than a quarter
of a century.
"Strickland has been a positive
voice for public education in Duplin
County and has worked closely with
school personnel to improve the
schools of our county,' L.S. Guy Jr.,
superintendent, stated, "jimmy has
made a lasting contribution to the
youth of our community. He has
given of himself so that our children
would have a strong educational
base from which they could develop
as good productive citizens of the
county, our state and our nation. We
appreciate all that he does in the
interest of the children of Duplin
County. The investment he has made
in the schools will live long beyond
the lifespan of an individual. Jimmy
represents the leadership caliber of
the Duplin County Board of Educa
tion," Guv added.
Strickland was selected to repre
sent Region 2 on the All-State Board
of Education. Region 2 includes 13
counties.
