Barnette served the Lodge as Master during 1969 and is the second member within the past 50 years to be elecied for a second term. Boyette Named Employee Of The Year Boyce W. Boyette of Route 2, Warsaw, has been honored as the Outstanding District Employee of the Year for 1984 by the N.C. k Association of Soil and Water Con servation Districts. The award was presented to Boyette Jan. 7 in Raleigh at the 42nd annual meeting of the N.C. Association of Soil and Water Con servation Districts. In making the presentation. Gar land Strickland, retiring president of the association, cited Boyette for his efforts "directed at-assisting land owners in' he Limestone-Creek and ^ Muddy Creek Watersheds with the federal cost-sharing land treatment program. He has provided technical advice and engineering specifica tions to the landowners, enabling them to be ter use and conserve their resources." "As a result of his efforts," Strickland continued, "Boyce has helped landowners save thousands of tons of topsoil each year, keeping it on the fields where it belongs." Boyette has served as the Duplin County conservation technician since 1980. The association is a non-govern mental advocacy group which works closely with the Division of Soil and Water Conservation, N.C. Depart ment of Natural Resources and Community Development. VFD Awards Fireman Of The Year The Kenansville Fire and Rescue Department heid its annual Christ mas party Dec. 17 in the newly completed Law Enforcement Officers " Building. Afier the dinner a brief business meeting was held. At this time Doriss Barnette was presented with the Fireman of the Year award, this award is voted on by the department and presented to the person who has put in extra time and effort to their cause. Doriss has been an active memoer of the the Kenansville Fire and Rescue Department tor six years. In accepting the award, she praised the I department for their spirit of to f getherness and quick response to volunteer calls in the community. Present Program The Duplin County Youth Services Advisory Council is sponsoring a public symposium on the latest child advocacy issues. The banquet will begin at 7 p.m. and will be the setting for recog nizing an outstanding farmer, law enforcement officer, firefighter, young teacher, teenager and senior citizen. The highlight will be pre sentation of the Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes a young man (ages 18-36) who has given of his lime to help others through civic actions. The admission price for the dinner and presentations will be S5 per person and will require the purchase of an advance ticket. Tickets may be purchased from Carey Wrenn at United Carolina Bank or Doc Brinson Presented 25-Year Service Recognition Jenell Ezzell, a plant clerk in the Clinton network switching depart ment for Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Co., was presented a watch in recognition of 25 years' of service with the company. The pre sention was made by Randall Mal lard, central office foreman. Mrs. Ezzell, a native of Duplin County, began her career with the company in Dec., 1959 as an operator. She is married to Linwood Ezzell and they have three sons, Darret, Darron and Kent. She i-, also an active member of the Warsaw Baptist Church. at the Kenansville Drug Store.
