Lodge Installs Officers
On Saturday. Dec. 29, the brothers of Beulah #110 Masonic Lodge, F.&A.M.,
were hosts to'heir annual Elderly Brothers' Holidays banquet, held this year
in the lodge's dininp hall The nrooram. emceed by Marshal Amos Dobson
Jr., headed the ceremonies with the Purpose of Occasion. Due to the
hospitalization of the scheduled speaker. Grand District Deputy Henry L.
Treadwell, W.M. John Wesley Sanders Jr. spoke in behalf of the deputy.
Also on the program were Darrell F. Washington, who presented an essay on
"What Makes a Master Mason" and the Rev. Ernest Frederick, who led the
invocation. Sanders presented district awards to the lodge and special
Certificates of Honor recognizing brethren who had extended outstanding
services through 1984. Some recipients were Brothers Amos Dobson Jr.,
William Frank Miller, William Stroud, Robert A. Jones, Darrell F.
Washington. Willie J. Steele Jr. and others. Samuel L. Washington was
?honored for perfect attendance and Edd Dudley Monk received the "Oldest
Active Brother" award. The widows of deceased brothers received gifts.
After remarks from the recipients, the 17 honor guests and others present
enjoyed a buffet-style meal prepared by the officers of the lodge. Officers for
the new year are: Worshipful Master John Wesley Sanders Jr., Senior
Warden William J. Stroud; Junior Warden James T. McGowan; Senior
Deacon Dunvood Graham; Junior Deacon James Henry Robinson; Secretary
William F. Miller; Treasurer Samuel L. Washington; Marshals Amos Dobson
Jr. and George N. Ammons; Stewards Willie J. Steele Jr. and Dexter Forte;
and Tyler Haywood Green Jr. Shown above is Master Sanders presenting
Past Master Edd Monk his Certificate of Honor recognizing his dedicated
services of over 40 years.

Lenoir Extension Offers Conservation Workshops
The N.C. Agricultural Extension
Service is planning a series of con
servation workshops across the state
during the week of Jan. 28-31.
A Conservation Tillage Workshop
will be held in Kinston at King's
Restaurant on Jan. 29 from 9:30 ? 12
noon. The purpose of the workshop
is to present the latest findings and
recommendations that will enable
farmers to achieve the best results
from a conservation tillage system.
This workshop will benefit both
experienced and inexperienced con
servetion tillage farmers.
The program will include residue
management, tillage operations,
stand establishment and fertiliza
tion, legumes for cover and nitrogen,
pest management, no-till forage
establishment, and economic incen

Lenoir County Crime Of The Week
Kinston police officers are investi
gating the. murder of Ms. Hokie
Shepherd of 1100 E. Caswell St.,
which occurred on Tuesday, Jan. 8.
According to police reports, Ms.
Sh?nh>>rd's nude body was found
lying on the floor between a bath
room and bedroom in her home by a
friend. Ms. Shepherd's 1983 bur
gundy Cadillac, license number
CDY-76 was also stolen.
Lenoir County Crime Stoppers will
pay a reward up to $1,000 for
information leading to the arrest or
indictment of the person or persons
responsible for the crime.

advises that personnel to assist in
filing state income and intangibles
tax returns will be available on
Tuesdays of each week through April
IS. The office is located at South
Courthouse Square in Kenansville,
and assistance is available between
the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Rose requests that taxpayers bring
the pre-addressed forms which were
mailed to them from Raleigh. Tax
payers filing their own returns
should mail their completed returns
to the appropriate Raleigh address.
