Main St. ? Kenansvilie g North Duplin And Jamos Kenan Duplin Schools To Present Musicals in May Duplin high school drama clubs will present spring plays at James Kenan and North Duplin in May. The ->ames Kenan High School drama club, the Unicorns, will be present "You're a Good Man Charlie 'Brown" in the gym May 2, 3 and 4. The North Duplin High School band, chorus and drama club will present "Joseph And The Amazing Techni color Dream Coat" in the gym May 10 and 11. Rehearsals for "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown" are already underway at James Kenan. The play is under the technical direction of Mary Hawes with musical direction by Melanie Morgan and Jim Hayes. According to Unicorn Club spon sor Jo Jones, the drama is the first public stage play the organization has undertaken. However, she pointed out prize winning appea rances by the Unicorm Club in the Warsaw Veterans parade, the Kenansville Twelve Days of Christ mas with the James Kenan Chorus, at the James Kenan Open House, and before organizations like the United Daughters of the Confed eracy and the Warsaw Chamber of Commerce. The Unicorns have ap proximately 40 members, all of which have a^part in the upcoming play. The cast of "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown" is made up of six actors. Members of the Unicorn Club, not cast in the play, have been assigned jobs as publicity, stage and set design, and properties techni cians, Jones said. Rehearsals are Monday through Thursday at 7 p.m. Auditions were held for the produc tion last month. Auditions for the North Duplin ' production of "Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dream Cost" were held earlier this week. The musical is North Duplin's fifth consecutive spring drama produc tion. Brian Hozie will direct the pro duction and musical direction will be done by Ann Taylor. The drartia is described by Hoxie as a rock opera and will have 27 to 28 actors on stage. The play also has a male and female chorus, and a boys choir. The entire cast is expected to exceed 45 memebers. The play is based on the Biblical story of Joseph and is accompanied by a variety of music from rock, to country, to styles of the 1920s and 1950s, Hoxie said. The production will be performed in the North Duplin High School bym. Rehearsals will begin in April. Earlier productions by the North Duplin student body have all been musicals. The first musical was produced in 1981 and an audience of almost 1,000 people attended the show during its two-night run. In the years following the 1981 production of "Oklahoma," North Duplin performed musicals such as "Hello Dolly" and "Li'l Abner," under the direction of Hoxie and Taylor. Seating for this year's production is expected to be limited to only about 300 people, Hoxie said. He added the production may be per formed an extra night if assured an audience through advanced re quests. The show, he said, would be of particular interest to church groups. ? Admissions will be charged at both high school productions. Pro ceeds from the drama? will be used in the production of next year's spring play.
