There were 11 sponsored walkers who raised a total of $783.50 for the C.F. Foundation. This money will be well spent by the Foundation in their efforts tocombat this disease which affects many of our children. Thanks were expressed to the people who did make contributions to these walkers and a very special thanks to the walkers who gave their time, energy and feet. It was a 10-mile walk on a very nice warm day. Every walker earned a CF baseball shirt. Four of the walkers earned an extra prize of a CF roll tote baa or CF beach shirt for raising $90 or more. The first place prize, a bicycle, went to Patricia Luao. who raised $155. The second prize of a t radio went to Vickie Tyndall, who raised $150. Maggie Koonce was third with $120. Her efforts in making this walk-a-thon successful are greatly appreciated. The other walkers included Logan Jarman, Keith Deatherage. Debra Davis. Bradley Miller, Dawn Baker, Beverly Murphy, Dewalae Koonce and Ann Whaley. PRAYER BREAKFAST The Deep Run Ladies Prayer Breakfast will meet Sunday morning. May 12. at the B&S Restaurant at 7:30 a.m. The speaker will be Sandra Herring Lee. Her topic will be "The Road to Motherhood." Everyone is encouraged to come and bring their mother. VOTE FOR SENIOR CITIZEN OF THE YEAR Voting for the Kinston Recreation Senior Citizen of the Year will be held May 14th from 2 - 5 p.m. at Watson Mutual Drugs, Broadway St. in Pink Hill. Be sure to vote for your choice. Anvone over 55 is eligible. WOMEN'S DAY SERVICE Graham Chapel Missionary Bap tist Church of Pink Hill will be having their Women's Day service Sunday, May 12 at 11:30 a.m. Guests will bfe the Eastern Stars and Mrs. Arthenia G. Hall of Kenansville will be the speaker. Announcement Mr. and Mrs. John Robert Brown of Pink Hill announce the engage ment of their daughter, Patty Joe, to John Albert Markl, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Irving Markl. A June 8th wedding is planned at Potters Hill Advent Christian Church. Family and friends are invited. EAST DUPLIN SENIOR CITIZENS The East Duplin Senior Citizens are having their regular meeting on Saturday. May 11 at 6 p.m. at the Sandy Plain Church fellowship building. Anyone 50 years or older is invited to come and bring a covered dish. There will be a short devotion by Rocki Kennedy and George Cowan will be showing slides of his museum which is in honor of his daughter. i Burn Note On Saturday night, April 27th, Christian Chapel Free Will Baptist Church celebrated the last payment of their church facilities with a barbecue supper. Following the supper there was a brief worship service conducted by the pastor. Reverend Frank Grubbs. Special music was presented by the church choir. The pastor and members then gethered on the grounds for the burning of the payment note. Special guests included Luther Ledford, banker. Rev. and Mrs. Ed Miles, former pastor of the church, and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Poole, general con tractor. The church would like to thank everyone who has contributed over the years. ouaraian tare nans ror National Nursing Home Week May 12-16 Guardian Care of Ken&nsville will join with thousands of nursing homes across the country in hosting National Nursing Home Week May 12-18. The following events are planned: Sunday, May 12, at 3 p.m.. Great Branch Church choir will perform. The Swinson Family will perform at 5 p.m. Monday, May 13 at 7 p.m., Charlie Albertson will perform. Tuesday, May 14 at 6:30 p.m., the residents will enjoy a covered-dish supper with their families and friends. Wednesday, May 15, at 10:30 a.m., the residents will participate in a wheelchair race. Thursday, May 16, at 10 a.m., the residents will be burying a time capsule containing the day's news paper and words of wisdom for the future. Plans are made to dig up the capsule in 15 years. At 7 p.m., the Duplin SeeSaws will perform in the facility dining room. Friday, May 17, at 2 p.m., the residents will enjoy a homemade ice cream party. Administrator Charles Sharpe says, "This year's National Nursing Home Week is especially significant in keeping with the American tradi tion of honoring winners.
