^ > Along The Way By Emily Killette f This week Along the Way features a few small articles from the 1936 issues of the Duplin Times. Each story is interesting but, too short to be featured alone--so this week Along the Way recalls muddv roads that shut in Beautancus and caused school closings, ana Teachey's first library. Beantancus Shut In February 20,1936 Beautancus was almost shut in last weekend with bad roads. The roads to Calypso were almost impassable over the weekend. Those who want ed to go that direction found it necessary to take the detour, a little to the north of the highway, and this road was very bad. The Tear Shirt-Warsaw road was in bad shape and some places was impassable. Some of the worst places had been helped by board tracks. The road to Summerlin's Cross Roads was in fair condition but from there to highway number 11 near Kenansville was impassable, and a detour just after leaving Goshen to the left was necessary. Roads leading north from Beautancus seem to be in better shape. In spite of the bad roads, a fair crowd was at Stanford Church for Sunday School and preaching Sun day afternoon. Kenansville Schools Not To Run Saturdays March 19,1936 The board of directors together with the faculty at the Kenansville school have made a study of the school situation resulting from the time lost because of the bad roads, and have decided that the patrons of the school would rather have child ren at home one day each week all along during the term than they would for them to attend school everyday and get out a few days earlier in the spring. The school authorities are doing their best to cooperate with the patrons in keep ing the children in school until the end of the term and it is hoped that the patrons will find it possible to leave their children in school until it closes. The short schedule will be follow ed so as to get the children back home soon after dinner, and by leaving Saturday open they will be home one whole day each week. Teachey Now Haa New Library March 12,1936 During the past year the Teachey Home Demonstration Club has had as its most outstanding project the establishment of a Community Lib rary. This was undertaken in the early summer of this past year and much progress has been made. A small office building was secur ed and furnished by donations. We have a circulation of 80 books, 30 of which were donated by the Wil mington Public Library. Through the courtesy of the North Carolina Li brary Commission, we have been able to secure loans of books. We have books to appeal to all ages and much interest is being shown among the children and young people as well as the adults. We are making plans to have a club social and book shower soon, and we hope by that means to add many new books to our library. The above story was written by the Teachey Librarian Mrs. Viola H. Wells. FOR SALE Cuatam-bullt. quality aonatruetad homa In nloa araa |uat outalda Baula villa. J BB, 2M bathe, baautlfully dacoratad throughout. Prlood rlqht 4 good financing.
